Description

G. 0. CONRAD.
Improvement in Treadles for Machinery. 129,107.
Patented July 16 UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE O. CONRAD, OF HARRISONBURG, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TREADLES FOR MACHINERY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,107, dated July 16, 1872.
rests; R, the legs and rods upon which the treadle vibrates; X, the rod connecting the treadle with the band-wheel W. A A are the legs or sides of the standard which supports the band-wheel. B is a flange forming the base of the standard, and by which it is secured to the platform by screws or otherwise. 0 is another flange, several inches above the base, projecting out so as to hold the sorew,D, which, in conjunction with the base B, forms a clamp by which the standard may be attached to the top or leg of a table, or any other object, by which it may be held in position to support the wheel W.
Fig. II represents the standard and clamp combined in a reverse vertical position and disconnected from the other parts, the same letters referring to similar parts in Fig. I, the
flanges B and G forming a clamp to be fastened by the screw D. E is a bend made in the standard, so as to bring the wheel near the standard and yet allow the hub of the wheel to be made long to prevent wearing rapidly and make it run steadily. The standard may be made without or with a slot, as shown by the dotted line F, to change the position of the wheel at option.
Fig. III represents the standard and wheel fastened to the corner of a table, N, by the clamp O and B with the screw D, and shows the bend E in the standard A.
Fig. IV represents the standard fastened to the leg of a table, L, with the treadle on the floor without the platform P.
I make no claimlto the treadle, connectingrod, or band-wheel, as they have long been in use; but
I do claim as my invention- 1. The combination of the treadle, rod, and
band-wheel with the standard 'A A upon a platform, as represented.
- 2. The construction of the standard A A with the base B and flange G, or its equivalent, substantially as described.
- 3. The bend E in the standard with or without the slot, for the purpose set forth.
