application mea January 7, 191s. serial no. 219,681,
' To al? whom it may concern. v
Ahas received a su A bracket 4,
Be it known that I, WILLIM LANE GIL- LE'ITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Flagtown, in the county of Somerset and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Funnels, of which the following. is Va specication.
This invention relates to a funnel and has for its object the production of a simple'and -efficient funnel which will lautomatically as a receptacle which is beingI` close as soon filled therefrom receives the desired amount of liquid. i
Another object of this invention is the roduction of a simple and' eiiicient m'eans for indicating to the operator that a receptacle which is bein filled through the funnel,
With these and vention consists of tions, combinations objects in View this incertain novelconstrucand arrangements of Aparts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed..
In the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical section through the funnel.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the indicator funnel.
carried by the F Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3 -3 of y referring to the drawing, a vin be seen that 1 designates the body of the funnel*Y which is provided with a reduced'neck 2 upon the lower end of Which is'mounted a resilient washer or ceiling ring 3.
which is adapted to support an indicator, cap, iscarried by' the funnel 1 and is provided with a substantially cir= 'cular disk 5 arranged intermediate the ends thereof. A casing Giscarried by the disk 5 and is substantially?7 tubular in structure.
transparent cover inr. 6, upon the upper 1n 1 6 and is carried by the plunger rod 9. This plunger rod 9 is provided with a conicalv neck 10 near the upper' end thereof placed The lower edge of the rod 9 for producing a shoulder 11, which l f shoulder is adapted to be engaged by means of the latching cient vquantity of liquid.
A handle 19 is securedto the funnel 1 and is provided with within which shank 20 is mounted a coil spring 21. y The latching bar or plate 13 is provided with an enlargedl head 22 which works within a socket 23 formed in the engaged by the spring 21 for the purpose of forcing the ger rod 9. A thumb push button 24 is carried by the latchin bar 13 and this push button 24 works wit in a slot 25 formed in the shank 20.
.The cap plate 8 is provided with the legend Full an oat 14 is forced upon the washer of valve seat 3, the cap plate 8 will be forced upwardly Within Ythe casing 6 t Aereby causing the' conical neck 10 to ride over the inner end of the latching rbar 13, the latching'bar 13 catching under the shoulder 11 and holding the rod. 9. in a set position, in this way supporting the cap plate 8 in the top endof the casing 6 and holding the float valve 14 in a closed position. In'this Way the operator may see by observing the-indicator that a desired amount of liquid has been placed within a. receptacle which is being filled through the funnel and atthe same time the lower end of the funnel will be closed thereby preventing a receptacle Ywhich is being filled by the funnel, from overflowing.
What is claimed is:
1. A funnel' comprising a body provided with a reduced neck, abracket adapted to support an indicator cap carried by said body, a plunger rod extending through said bracket, a valve carried by the lower end of preventing the liquid from. .splashing through the neck 2 and this domeall times against the pluna projecting shank 20 d' as soon as the valve or said plunger 4rod, a sealing ring carried by indicator cap carried by said bod a plunger the lower edge of said reduced neck, said rod extending through said brac et, a valve valve adapted to be seatedupon said sealing carried by said plunger rod for closing the ring for constituting a closure for the lower dischar e opening at selected intervals, a
end of said body, a liquid diffusing means conical neck carried near the upper end of carried within said neck, and a spring said plunger rod, and indicators' carried-by pressed latching means slidably mounted the upper end of said plunger rod, said f upon said bracket and engaging said plunconical neck provided with an abrupt lower ger rod for locking said plunger rod in a end, a. flat sliding latching bar slidably closed position. mounted upon said bracket and provided 2. A Jfunnel of the class described comwith a notched inner end adapted to t prising a body, a reduced neckcarried-by under said abrupt'shoulder of said plunger said body, a dome-shaped diffusing plate rod thereby constituting a positive locking carried within said reduced neck and promeans for holding said plunger rod in a vided with radiating apertures widened toraised position, a handle secured to said ward their outer ends, a plunger rod extendbody, said handle provided with a longituing through said plate, a valve carried by the dinally extending bore formed therein, said lower end of said plunger rod, a sealing ring latching bar extending through'said bore, a carried by the lower edge of said reduced knob carried by said latching bar and exneck and constitutin a valve seat for said tending through said handle `for facilitating valve, a supporting racket carried lby the the manual operation of said latching bar,
v upper end of said body and constituting a and means for yieldably forcing said latchguide for the upper end of said plunger rod, ing bar in engagement with said plunger a flat latching bar slidably mounted upon rod. said bracket and adapted to automatically In testimony whereof I aiix my signature engage said plunger rod for locking said in presence of two witnesses.
plunger rod in a raised position. WlLLIAM LANE GILLETTE. 3. A funnel of the class described com- Witnesses: v prising a body provided with a discharge CHAs. S. HAMILTON,
