Be it known that I, SAMUEL SEAMAN JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Number 38a Monroe street, in the,
city of New Yoflt, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, State ofNew York, have invented a. new and useful Wireless De tector, of which the following is a specificatibn. i
.My invention relates to improvements in wireless detectors used in conjunction with Galena or other crystals, ores, metals or other things that may be used as substitutes, for the sensitive detection or reception of either wire orwireless telegraphic or telephonic ln'essa'ges.

The improvements involved and herein claimed by me, over other forms of similar detectors, and not possessed by any of them, for which patent is asked, are based upon the ability through this improvement, of presenting instantly in turn, the entire surface'of the crystal (1) or other agent employed as a substitute, without removing the said crystal or substitute from,its holder. (2), to the action of the needle, whisker, or
.other instrument (3), by means of claw (4:)
and ball (5) joints, attached to standards (6), the claw (4) and ball (5) being used to permit the standard (6) attached to ball (5) to move freely between the claws (4) in circling from side to side. This method and action being also present and employed both in connection with the standard (6) holding the crystal or substitute (1) and the standard (6) holding the needle or whisker (3). By reason of such flexibility and wide radius of action, the crystal or substitute (1) can, without removal from its holder, (2) be moved or set at any desired angle or degree in any direction, so that each particular or sensitive sidehr surface of the crystal or substitute 1) cah be freely and instantly presented in turn as desired, to the action of the needle or substitute therefor (3). The standard (6) supporting the needle, Whisker or substitute, (3) possessing the same improvement and employing the same method of action, can be moved or set to accommodate itself to the position assumed by the crystal or substitute, (1) in the same general manner. In wireless telegraphy, telephony and other means of communication, there is used, for the reception of sound, several forms'of mineral crystals which are commonly fastened by means of set screws or other means,
in some sort of cup or other receptacle that presents a particular surface-of the crystal to the action of a pointed needle, sometimes called a whisker; connected in circuit with other instruments. Some, but not all of these crystals, possess sensitive veins run ning in various directions through them, and unless these veins are discovered and the needle placed thereon, no sound issues therefrom. It naturally follows that the cardinal principle, is to search out and discover where and on What side or surface, the most sensitive parts of the crystal lie. The usual method and the one heretofore employed, is to place the crystal in its holder and test with the needle, all over the top or uppermost surface, remove the crystal from its holder, and test another surface and so on 1 until the entire surface of the crystal has been gone over and the most sensitive spot determined, when it is fastened in its holder and used. Through my invention it is not necessary at any stage to remove the crystal from its holder in testing for sensitive sur- Q face or other purposes or to finally change or fasten any part after desired surface is found, for the reason that both the standard holding the crystal holder and the standard holding the needle or whisker are attached to balls, held in place by claws which attendant upon its removal from the holder andaalso incidentally the loss and deterioracomprising ball and claw joints proyided with solid spheres, spring claws Partly encircling said spheres, cups for mounting said spheres, standards attached to said spheres,. needle holder and crystal clip carried by said standards and screws passing through the bottom of the cups for adjusting the resistance to movement of said sphere in said 20 spring claws.
