ROSARIO C. LUSSIER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CLOSETSEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
patented Jan. v, 1919.
Application filed August 23, 1917. Serial No. 187,766. Y s
T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, RosARro C. LUssmR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closet-Seats, of which `the following is a specification.
This invention relates to closet fixtures and has more particular relation to closetseats.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide an integral seat construction of plastic material possessed of heat, water and vermin resisting properties, and calculated not to warp, buckle or crack in use, the cost of manufacture of which is not in excess of present day fixtures/and the .commercial value and hygienic features of which are materially increased. Other and further objects will be hereinafter referred to.
The invention consists of the improvements hereinafter described and nally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly sectioned, of a seat and cover embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view in central section thereof;
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the seat; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view of the underside of the cover.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown inthe accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, althouoh it is to be understood that thevarious lnstrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
In practising the invention, I utilize for the purpose of manufacturing the seat 10 and its cover 11 a plastic composition of fire, water and vermin resisting properties. Such composition consists of a mixture of asbestos, magnesite, chlorid of magnesia and to the present invention. Within a" form or mold of desired configuration is iirst placed a thin layer of the above described composition or plastic. Upon such layer of composition is placed a reinforce embracing a wire mesh or screen-work 12 theI marginall edges of which are bound by wires 18 and 14 in making a seat 10 and a wire 15 in making a cover 11. The wires 13, 14 and 15 are of a configuration to conform to the marginal contour of said parts and in practice are disposed in juxtaposition thereto so as to provide strength and rigidity to such marginal portions. 'Io each reinforce is soldered or otherwise secured a pair ofproperly positioned thin metallic plates 16 tapped for the reception of screws with which hinge plates 17 are secured to the seat and cover. The reinforce or screen-work 12 ma;7 be' further braced by means of wire rods 18 inserted between the wires 13 and 14 or between the curvature of wire 15. Upon each reinforce thus positioned is placed another layer of the said composition and pressure is then applied to the contents of the mold to press the composition between the mesh of the reinforce and securely embed the latter therein. The seat or cover as may be is then subjected to heat to bake or harden the product. It becomes necessary now to finish the article of manufacture to apply` the hinge connections. In this respect while the above described composition is admirably suited for the introduction of screws for securing in place the hinge joints, the plates 16 preclude the possibility of screws working loose. As before stated the reinforce and plates 16 may be omitted if desired.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a novel and useful construction which, embodies the features of advantage enumer-y ated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and While I' have in the present instance shown and described the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification invarious particulars Without departing from the-spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What I claim is:
A closet seat and its hinged lid each of plastic composition and each provided With a Wire mesh reinforce embedded therein said Wire mesh being bound With marginal reinforcing Wires the respective ends of said Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the VCommissoner of Patents, A
.Wires being connected together sothat said Wires conform. to the marginal outlines of said seat and lid respectively, a plurality of reinforcing cross Wires connected between said marginal Wires, and plates embedded 20 ROSARIO c. LUssIIiR.
