"In the particular example selected for illustration the door is provided with an .ordinary mortise lock having a latchbolt and a deadbolt, the deadbolt being operative by suitable key mechanism and the latchbolt being "operative by the customary knob mechanism. The casing or frame of the dooris provided with a strike plate having openings vfor the deadbolt and latchbolt, respectively, and a hinged part cooperating `With'said openings so that when said hinged part is locked in one position it will hold the bolts in the strike, Whereas if it is moved to another position it will release the bolts. This hinged part of the strike is controlled by lock or detent actuated from a cylinder lock on thedoor j amb into which a so-called emergency key can be inserted for releas ing the movable strike member. It will thus be apparent that when the door is locked the possessor of the emergency key may open it by actuating the cylinder lock on the door frame to release the lock for the hinged part of the strike, which can be pushed or pulled to the open position by pushing or pulling on the door. All of these features are not essential parts of iev invention all. .et its aspects, but they are mentioned to facilitate understanding of the following detailed description.

The lock C on the door may be an ordinary mortise lock having a deadbolt 2O and a latchbolt 21, indicated in dotted lines on Fig. 1. The strike D has an opening 22 to receive the deadbolt and an opening 23 to receive the latchbolt. The latchbolt 21 is adapted to be retracted by the knob mechanism G, and the dcadbolt 20 is adapted to be actuated by a cylinder lock mechanism H at the outside of the door, having the usual Y change key.
The strike D is mortised in the door jamb in the usual manner. lts movable part F is hinged at the bottom to the main part `0f the strike by a pin 24 so that the part F can swing in a vertical plane generally perpendicular to the plane of the door frame. At the lower portion of the hinged member the same is provided with a latch-bolt lip 25, which, when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2, closes the latohbolt opening 23 at the inside of the door. At its upper portion the member F is provided with a.
flange 26 which is adapted to close the deadbolt opening 22 when the member F is in the locked position. Near its upper end the inner face of the member F is provided with a perforated lug or eye 27 by means of which the upper end of member F can be locked to the main part of the strike so as to retain the bolts in the openings 22 and 23. Coperating with the lug 27 is a lever 28 pivoted intermediate its ends at 29 between one wall of the strike proper and a cheek 30 adjacent to the upper part of the strike. The lever 28 is adapted to swing in a plane generally perpendicular to that of the door frame and at one end it has a linger 31 adapted to engage the perforated lug 27, while at the opposite end it is adapted to be engaged by suitable cam mechanism on the rear end of the cylinder lock E.
The upper end of the main part of the strike is laterally enlarged to provide a portion 32 extending across the j amb in a mortise in the latter, and it is in this part 32 of the strike that the cylinder E is secured by means of a fastening screw 33 extending into a hole in the side of the cylinder. As will be observed from the dotted lines in Fig. 4, the head of the screw 33 is covered by the upperl art of the hinged member F when the latter 1S locked in place by the lever 28 and in order to get at the screw 33 it, is first necessary to release the member F with the emergency key, as hereinafter described.
Pivoted on the main part of the strike, below the lever 28, is a lever 34. Thisler-er is generally similar to the lever 28 and is pivoted intermediate of its ends on a pin 35 extending between the cheek member 30 and the main part of the strike. Obviously both of the levers 28 and 34, are located Aat the rear face ofthe strike, in a suitable mortise in the door frame, as shown in Fig. 3.

Referring tothe details of the cylinder lock mechanism E it will lbe observed that the cylinder lock hasthe usual casing 38 with a key plug 39 therein, and sectional pin tumblers 40. Surrounding the key plug at the rear thereof is a short sleeve 41 controlled bythe rearmost pin tumbler 40. In Fig. 8, I have shown a key 42 inserted into the cylinder, which key is termed the display key. rllhis key racks the pin tumblers so that the key plug is released from the casing and from the sleeve, whereas the sleeve is locked to the casing. The key is not sufliciently long to reach and shift the pin tumbler 40a and therefore the sleeve remains in its normal condition, viz., it is locked tothe casing and when the key is inserted the key plug can be rotated individually thereby actuating a cam 43 secured to the rear end of the key plug byscrews 44 and co-acting with the inner end of the shut-outlever 34 which locks the bolt in the strike; The short sleeve 41, previously mentioned, carries a cam 45 which is not actuated by the display key 42 owing to the fact that this key does not turn the sleeve. rlhe emergency key 46 will, however, rotate both of the CanisV 43, 45. This key is longer than the key 42, as shown in Fig. 7, and it is bitted to shift the rearmost pin tumbler 40aL into such a position that the short sleeve is locked to the key plug, but, on the other hand, released from the casing. Therefore, when the emergency key is used, the key plug and sleeve are turned together carrying with them their operated, as hereinafterdescribed.

What I claim is,
1. iThe combination vvith andoor and door frame of a bolt onthedoor for locking Athe latterto the framesa strike on theframe to receivev :said bolt, and tumbler cont-rolled means associatedwith said` strike and lo-v cated Wholly on the frame, and operable `from the outside of `the door for locking said bolt in said strike.
2. The combination with adoor anddoor trame, of a. bolt on the door'for locking the `latter to the frame, a strikeon the `iframe to receive saidy bolt, and tumbler controlled means' associated vvith fsaidstrike and operable Sbyafkey from `the outsideot the door 'for lockingsaid bolt in said i strike -by` en- ,i1-agement with "the ybolt head.

In a door lock construction, a door, a doorfraine, a bolt `on the door, a strike platel on the frame having a fixed part and a movable part, a member on the frame to lock and release said movable part of the strike, another member on the frame to dog said bolt in its protracted position in the strike Plate, and a single key mechanism mounted in the door janib for operating both of said members.

In a door lock construction, a door, a door frame, a bolt on the door, a strike plate on the frame having a fixed part and a movable part, a member on the frame to lock and release said movable part of the strike, another member on the frame to dogl said bolt in its protracted position in the strike plate, and a single key mechanism mounted in tl e door j amb for operating` lboth of said members, said key mechanism including a` cylinder lock Whose axis is in a plane substantially parallel to the plane of the door when the latter is closed.
9. in attachment for locks, comprising a strike having a fixed member and a movable member pivotally secured to the fixed member, and cylinder lock mechanism mounted on the fixed member for locking and releasing the movable member.
10. An attachment for locks, comprising a strike having a fired member and a movable member, a bolt (logging device mounted on the fitted member, and a device mounted on said fixed member for locking and releasing the movable member and the bolt-dogging device.
11. T he combination of a strike plate, a shut-out device mounted thereon for dogging the bolt in the protracted position, and key actuated mechanism for operating said shut-out device, including a cylinder lock connected With said strike plate.
12. The combination of a strike plate having a lifted part and a movable part, a membei1 on the strike plate for controllingv said movable part. another member on the strike plate for clogging the bolt in protracted position, and a cylinder lock on the strike plate having means for operating said members independently by different keys.
13. The combination with a door and door frame of a bolt on the door, a shut-out device on the frame for engaging the bolt head and locking it to the frame, an emergencv release device on the frame, and key mechanism lfor releasing both of said devices simultaneously.
14. An attachment for locks,.comprising a strike, a` bolt clogging member pivotally mounted upon said strike, and tumbler mechanism on said strike for controlling said bolt clogging member.
15. An attachment for locks, comprising a strike having a iXed member and a movable member, a device on said Xed member for locking and releasing the movable member, another device on Said fixed member for dogging a bolt by engagement with the head thereof, and tumbler controlled mechanism on said xed member for controlling both of said devices.
16. The combination With a door and door frame. of a lock on the door having a bolt, aWstrike on the door frame to receive said bolt, having a fixed part and a .movable part, means on the fixed part of said strike for locking and releasing the movable part, means on said fixed part for dogging the lock bolt, and tumbler controlled, keyl actuated mechanism mortised in the door frame and accessible from the outside of the door for controlling' the movable part of the strike and said clogging means.
17. an attachment for locks, comprising a strike having a fixed member and a movableV member, said movable member having one end pivotally secured to the fixed member adjacentone end thereof, means at the other end of said fixed member for locking said movable member in its operative position, andV a key controlled lock mounted upon said strike adjacent said last mentioned end for operating said locking means.
18. An attachment for, locks comprising a strike having a fixed member, a movable member pivotally secured thereto, and a cylinder lock mounted upon the fixed member for locking and releasing the movable member.
19. An attachment for locks, comprising a. strike having bolt-receiving notches formed therein. a member pivotally mounted on said strike adjacent one end thereof for closing the opened side ofsaid notches, means upon the opposite end of said strike for locking said pivoted member in its operative position, and a key controlled lock mounted upon said strike adjacent said last mentioned end for operating said locking means.
20. An attachment for locks comprising a strike plate having a notch formed therein for receiving the end of a protracted bolt, a member movablv mounted upon said strike plate for closing the opened side of said notch, and a cylinder lock for locking said movable member inv its notch-closing position.V
