- This invention relates to wood sawing apparatus, particularly to drag saws, and has for its object the provision of awheeled support for the end of the frame remote from the saw, whereby the frame may be conveniently moved toward and away from logs or other material being sawed, the wheeled support being revoluble in respect to the frame whereby the wheel may be disposed transversely of the longitudinal axis of the frame, so that the frame may be moved laterally to the next log where a cut is to be made, the provision of the wheel also enabling the entire saw frame to be trundled from place to place by the operator grasping the divergent ends of the frame.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn O. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Steilacoom town, in the county of Pierce and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVoodSawing Apparatus, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to wood sawing apparatus, particularly to drag saws, and has for its object the provision of awheeled support for the end of the frame remote from the saw, whereby the frame may be conveniently moved toward and away from logs or other material being sawed, the wheeled support being revoluble in respect to the frame whereby the wheel may be disposed transversely of the longitudinal axis of the frame, so that the frame may be moved laterally to the next log where a cut is to be made, the provision of the wheel also enabling the entire saw frame to be trundled from place to place by the operator grasping the divergent ends of the frame.
An important object is the provision of a wheeled support, the axle of which may be adjusted vertically in respect to the frame whereby the angular inclination of the frame in respect to a log or other material being cut may be varied.
Another object is the provision of a structure of this character which will be extremely simple and inexpensive in manufacture, a great labor saving in use in avoiding the present necessary dragging of the frame from place to place, and which will be a general improvement of the art.
WVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a conventional form of drag saw having a V-shaped frame, showing its saw in operative relation to a log being operated upon,

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the divergent side bars of the frame of a drag saw, this frame being of the ordinary V-shape and having at its smaller end a filler block 6. Suitably mounted upon the frame 5 is the Specification of Letters Patent.

saw 7 reciprocatory in any suitable guide means and driven in any desired manner as for instance, by the air motor 8. In the ordinary construction of drag saws of this character, the smaller end of the frame is supported by a post or leg. With this construction it is a difficult operation for the operator to shift the frame toward and from an object being sawed or laterally to a different location where a cut is to be made.
In carrying out my invention I dispense with this usual leg (not shown) and employ a wheeled supporting structure which comprises a U-shaped yoke or fork 9 which is provided at its upper end with a spindle or trunnion l0 revolubly received within an opening 11 in the block 6 and within alined openings inreinforcing plates 12 disposed above and below the frame. Thisyoke is prevented from displacement from the frame by means of a suitable nut 13 threaded upon the upper end of the spindle and engaging the top of the upper plate 12. If desired, and it is preferable, a handle 14 may be secured in any desired manner upon the spindle 10 so that the yoke may be turned when desired. The sides of the yoke or fork 9 are provided with series of holes 15 through selected pairs of which a spindle 16 is passed which carries a wheel 17. The spindle is secured in place by means of suitable nuts 18 threaded upon the ends thereof.
In the use of a drag saw equipped with my wheeled support, it will be obvious that with the wheel 17 disposed in alinement with the longitudinal aXis of the frame, the frame may be moved bodily lengthwise toward or away from a log or other article being sawed. Furthermore, when the wheel is thus disposed, the operator may by grasping the divergent ends of the bar 5, trundle the frame from place to place in a manner identical with the trundling of a wheelbarrow. When the frame is in proper position and the saw is in operation, the wheel. 17 is turned to a position at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the frame, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, so that the thrust of the saw will not move the frame in. respect to the work.
When it is desired to shift the frame laterally, as for instance in making a plurality of cuts on a fallen log, the operator need only to remove the saw blade from engagement with the log or other work and with the wheel 17 disposed transversely as above described, support the divergent ends of the frame bars by lifting them and then trundle the entire device laterally, as Will be obvious.
Whenever it is desired to change the angular inclination of the frame in respect to the Work, as for instance in sawing logs of very small or very large diameter, it is merely necessary to place the spindle 16 in a desired different pair of holes 15, as Will be obvious.
-From the foregoing description and a study of the drawing it Will be apparent that I have provided an extremely simple and inexpensive means for supporting the end of a drag saw frame so as to facilitate its ready transportation from place to place and shifting from one point of Work to another.
Having thus described my invention What I claim is:
1. In combination With a drag saw frame, a forked member revoluble in respect to one five cents each,

through one end of said frame, a handle on said spindle, and a Wheel journaled in said forked member and vertically adjustable therein.
3.-A-support for drag saw frames comprising a forked member, a spindle on the upper end thereof extending revolubly through one end of the frame, the arms of said fork being provided with a plurality of alined holes, and a Wheel disposed Within said fork and having its spindle engageable Within selected pairs of said holes.
