My invention has for its; object to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive pump jack which willV raise a greatamolunt of water with the expenditure of littlepower, no more power beingnecessary to operate a long stroke pump than a short one.
With the foregoing object in view,v the invention resides in the novel features of construction and unique association of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved pump jack.

In the drawings above briefly described, the numerals 1 designate a pair of sleepers upon which the ends of twofparallel sills 2 are bolted or otherwise secured, the ends of said sills being preferably held in spaced relation by transverse blocks 3 against the opposite ends of which they are secured by bolts or the like 4.
A pair of bearings 5 are secured to the upper edges of the sills 2, the outer end of each bearing being provided with two vertical shoulders 6. Two pairs cf vertical channel bars 7 are provided, one pair being located at the outer side of each of the sills l2 and having their inner flanges inset in said' sills and bolted thereto at 8. The free edges of said inner flanges abut the shoulders 6 as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2 and it will thus be seen that any tilting movement of the bars 7 longitudinally of the sills 2 will be prevented. At their upper ends, the inner flanges ofthe bars l7 are-connectedby tie .bars 9 and the bars-of the two .pairs are ditional tie Vbars 11 may Iconnect the lower ends of the-outerflanges of the bars 7 and in all cases, U-shapedbars 12 will be secured to said flanges adjacenttheir lower ends while arched .bars 13 are secured in like Vmanner to the. upper ends of said flanges. Additional arched bars 14 may well-.be riveted at 15 to the inner. sides `of the bars 13 and project slightly beyond .the inner edges thereof as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.' Between the inner and outerxanges of the bars .7, antifrieti'on rollers 167 are mounted Yupon Vrivets or the like 17. which pass'. through said flanges, and between the lowermost of these rollers, guide plates 18 are secured by `bolts 19 in the channels ofthe bars and are spaced from the bottoms of said channels by spacing blocks 20, so that the Opposed sides of such plates are substantially flush with the peripheries of the rollers.
Pinions 21 are located between the plates 18 and a carrying shaft 22 is provided for said pinions, said shaft being rotatably mounted in the bearings 5 and being driven in any preferred manner. For illustrative purposes, I have shown a relatively large gear 23 on the shaft 22 meshing with a pinion 24 on a transverse drive shaft 25, the latter having a pulley 26 driven by a belt 27 from a suitable engine or the like. A vertical rack bar 28 is Vprovided for each pinion 21, each of said rack bars consisting of parallel side bars 29 and pins 30 extending between them, one side bar of each rack bar being longer than the other and being pivotally connected to the upper end of the pump rod 31. Each of the rack bars 28 is equipped with alateral roller 32 on its upper end, said roller being adapted to travel 0n the bars -13 and 14 when the rack bar has reached the limit of its upward tenth of the power heretofore necessary is required for raising water, and the power need not be increased as the stroke of the pump increases. Since probably the best results are obtained from the details shown and described, they may well be followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may well be made. Y
I claim:
1x A pump jack comprising a sill, a pair of channel bars disposed vertically at one side of said sill with` their' inner flanges secured to the latter and with their channels :facingl each other, a tie bar connectingthe upper ends of said inner anges, an arched bar connecting the .upper ends of the outer flanges of said bars and a U-shaped bar connecting the lower ends of said outer anges, rollers mounted horizontally in the channels of said bars, a double-sided and double-ended rack bar operable between said channel bars, a driven pinion between said bars for moving said rack bar upwardly in the channel Vof one bar and downwardly in the channel of the other bar, and a lateral roller on the upper end of said rack bar adapted to travel upon said arched and U- shaped bars when the rack bar is moved from one track to the other at the completion of its strokes.
2. A structure as specified in claim-l, together with guide plates secured between the lower rollers and substantially Hush with their peripheries to prevent the ends of the rack bar from striking said rollers.
3. A pump jack comprising a sill, a bearing secured to the upper edge of said sill and having parallel vertical shoulders at one end, a pair of channel bars disposed vertically with their channels facing each other, the inner flange of each bar contacting with one side of said sill and the edges of said inner flanges abutting said shoulders of the bearings to brace the bars, means for securing said ianges to said sill, a vertical rack bar operable between said channel bars, a pinion meshing with said rack bar for moving it upwardly in one channel and downwardly in the other, and a carrying shaft for said pinion mounted in said bearing.
