Description
1. Cv. MES. ELECTRIC SIGN REFLECTOR.
916 REN WED APPLiCATION Fl SEPT. 20. i918. 1,288,653. Patented Dec'. 24, 1918.
JOSEPH CONRAD NIES, OF NEWARK, OHIO.
ELECTRIC-SIGN REFLECTOR.
Application iiled December 28, 1916, Serial No. 139.343.
To all lwhom t may concern:
Be it known thatl, JOSEPH C. Nine, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Newark, county of Licking, and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Iniproveinents in Electric-Sign Reflectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to electric sign reflectors, and has for its primary object to provide in a device of this character a means whereby the reflector may be easily adjusted to vary the direction of the reected light rays.
A.. further o'bject'of the invention is to provide a device which is simple in con struction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying' drawing forming a partof this specification, the figure shows a perspective view of a device embodying .iy invention.
in the drawings, attention being called to the figure, the numeral indicates a metallic sheet having an opening 11 formed therein. lVithin this opening there is partially inserted a reflector A, comprising a metal sheet l2 bent to a conical formation as shown. This reflector is provided with a pair of elongated strips 13, the ends of which are adapted to be passed through openings 14: as shown. The reflector as a whole if held in position after having passed the ends of the strips 13 through the opening leiby bending the ends of said strips into contact with the metallic sheet. It might be well to state here that the reflector may be adjusted with respect to the opening l1 by varying the angle between the aXis of the cone shaped refiector A and the plane of the metal sheet l0. This variation may be accomplished by bending either a greater Specification of Letters Patent. l
Patented Dec. 2d, 1918.
Renewed September 20, 1918. Serial No. 255,012.
or lesser portion of either metal strip into Contact with the metal sheet 10 after said strips have been passed through the openings 1-1. It may be well to state further that the space between the reflector and the inner wall of the opening l1 may be varied by bending either a `greater or lesser portion of both metal strips into contact with the metal sheet l0, thus securing the reflector A a greater or lesser degree within the opening 11.
It is to be understood'that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
The combination with a sheet having an opening therein, of a cone-shaped reflector partially extending into said opening and adapted to partially obstruct the passage therethrough, said sheet being provided with a plurality of smaller openings arranged in proximity to the first mentioned opening; a pair of elongated strips secured to said reflector at the edge thereof, said strips being passed through the smaller openings provided in said sheet and adapted for longitudinal adjustment therein to vary the distance between the edge of the first mentioned opening and the cone-shaped reflector, said strips being adapted to be bent at the ends thereof to retain the reector in position with respect to th-e first mentioned opening.
JOSEPH CONRAD NIES.
