IMPROVEMENT IN METALLIC STIFFENERS FOR BOOT AND SHOE HEELS.

Specification forming declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which. form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of an ordinary shoe with our improvement attached, and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same,

The object of our invention is to prevent the counter of a boot or shoe from falling on one side or breaking; also, to prevent the heel from wearing down more on one side than on The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement, in connection with a boot or shoe, of a metal plate, in the manner hereinafter fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation. 7 A represents an ordinary shoe; B, the plate,

which is provided at its center with a hole for the purpose'of securing it to the heel of the shoe by means of a screw, as shown at O. This plate is provided at its upper end with a circular head, D, which is slightly concave on its inner side, and its lower end is turned 1nward at right angles, thus forming the flange E, which extends a short distance under the; heel, and is fastened to the heel by means of pins or rivets a a, as fully seen in Fig. 1.

Thus it will be observed that our device will as our own we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.

Corrections in Letters Patent No- 128,843.

I, William H. Doolittle, Acting Commissioner of Patents, hereby certify that on the seventh day of April, 1880, in accordance with the act of Congress entitled An Act for the relief of Nelson Lyon and Jeremiah S. James, approved on the first day of April, 1880, I have come cted and do hereby correct the Patent dated on the ninth day of July, 1872, numbered 128,843, and erroneously granted to Joseph Barsaloux, Jerennah S. James, and Nelson Lyon, as joint inventors, for an invention which was 1n fact made by Barsaloux as sole inventor, and of which at the time of issue of said Patent said J ames and Lyon were assignees of the entire and exclusive right, title, and lnterest as set forth in an assignment recorded in Liber Q45, page 259, of this i q by making a correction upon the face of a certified copy of said Patent, (the gmal Patent having been 10st,) and by a proper certificate thereof appended thereto, so that as corrected the said Patent shows that the grant is to the said Jeremiah S. James and Nelson Lyon jointly, their heirs and assigns, as assignees of said Joseph fgelifsaloux. 'Ihe corrections so made upon the face of the said certified copy are as o ows:

First. The words of which the said Barsaloux is the inventor, and the said James and Lyon are the assignees of the entire and exclusive right, title, and interest afire inserted on the face of the said certified copy, after the words Boot and Shoe ee s.

Second. I have erased the name of Barsaloux occurring after the words and to grant unto the said Third. I have erased from the specification and drawing attached to said certified copy of the Patent the names of the said James and Lyon, appended thereto as inventors, and have changed the headings of said drawings and specifications to correspond with the patent corrected as above indicated.

I have caused the said corrections to be noted in the records of the Patent Office. Said corrections have been made under authority of the act of Congress specified a ove. I

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Patent Office to be affixed at the City of -Washington, this 7th day of- April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty, and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred and fourth.
