Description

C. L. ALLEN.
Improvement in Dust-Fans for. Thrashi ng-Machines.
Patented July 9,1872.
' NITED CHARLES L. ALLEN, OF FLAT ROCK, MICHIGAN.
; iMPRovEMENT m DUST-FANS FOR THRA'SHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No..128,838, dated July 9, 1872.
To whomit may-concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. ALLEN, of.
Flat .Rook,':, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fan-Case Spouts for Graim,
Separators; and I do declare that the follow This; invention has for its object to provide an adjustable dust-discharge pipe to the fancase attachment to grain-separators, for which Letters Patent numbered 105,158 were, on July 12, 1870, issued to. Charles L. Allen, assignor to: himself and William Shiek, whereby the dustis prevented from being blown back into the machine duringthe prevalence of a contrary wind and it consists in the peculiar construction of the adjustable dust-discharge pipe and its application for the purpose, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents the fan-case, constructed as described in said Letters Patent, except that the grooves d d and the slide D, as therein described and shown, are dispensed with, leaving thatend of the fan-case open. B is the fan on the shaft a, rotated from any convenient pulley of the separator for the purpose of driving away the dust raised in the process of separating the grain or seed;
It has beenjfound, in practice that with the case A constructed as described inthe'said Letters Patent a contrary wind would blow the dust back into the machine or into the face of the attendants who were engaged in feeding thegrain to the cylinder; To overcome this objection l provideiherear end of the case with a spout, D, over which may be slipped an elbow-nozzle, D. If the wind be from the attendants the latter is omitted or taken off, but if contrary it isplaced on the spout, and
'turnedso as to discharge the dust at onside.
or down into the machine, falling on the bolts.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to I secure by Letters Patent, is a In combination with the fan case A,-provided with grooves and adjustable slide-board W, the tube D and adjustable nozzle D, substantially as and for the purpose'set forth.
' CHAS. L. ALLEN.
