The essential objects of my invention are to securely engage the watch or other attached article safely against accidental re lease; to make it unnecessary to slide the tongue to permit the insertion of an article into the clasp; to reduce the expense of manufacture; to lessen the number of parts; and to attain these ends in a structure whose contour corresponds with the contour of the links to which the fastener is attached.
To the above ends my invention consists in such parts and combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

My invention is herein shown in conjunction with a watch 9 provided with a ring 10 and an attached eye 11 to each of which members is connected by my novel clasps 12, the inner links 13 and outer links 14 of an extensible bracelet of usual construction.
As both fasteners 12, one on each end of the chain or bracelet, are identical in congtrnlction, a description of one will serve for Each fastener 12 is cut and bent up from a blank of sheet metal to form a top and bottom plate 15 provided with longitudinal ears or extensions 16; also, an inner wall or face 1'? connecting the plates, and preferably slightly ofi'set from the latter to form a longitudinally disposed channel or seat 18.
The ends 16 off the plates are connected by a post 19 integral wlth or soldered thereto. The connection may be of any other preferred construction.
Intermediate the plates, and forming a front wall for the same is a plate 21 constituting the shank of a hook or beak 22 upon its forward portion. soldered, sweat, or otherwise fixed to the edges of the plate and projects forwardlv' some distance beyond the ends of the plates to advance the hook some distance beyond the latter. The shank does not extend farther back than the beginning of'the extension 16, at which point the material of the shank is bent inwardly or transversely of the plates forming a finger 24C. The shank has also a longitudinal slot 25.
Slidably mounted in the described structure is a resilient member formed from a single piece of metal comprising an arm 27, a transversely disposed end or bearing portion 28, and a resilient tongue 29, longer than the arm 27, and located at the opposite end of the bearing portion. The end of the tongue is adapted to register with the end of the beak 22. The tongue 27 and arm 29 slightly diverge from the portion 28. The tongue slides in the guideway or seat 18; and a projection or finger piece 31 on the arm 27 slides in the slot 25. The tongue is normally pressed into contact with the beak by a helical-spring 32 located between the wall 17 and shank 21, and having one end in contact with the finger 24 and the portion 28 of the locking member.
Then it is desired to open the fastener the projection 31 is manually pressed rearwardly, compressing the spring 32 and affording a space between the tongue and beak, as shown in Fig. 5, to remove the watch ring 10. When it is sought to intro duce a watch ring it is unnecessary to move the projection, butthe parts may be in the position shown in Fig. 4. beak on the other end of the shank, a resilient locking member slidably-mounted between the plates adapted to register with the beak, a projection on said member extending through the slot, and a spring engaging the finger and said member.

5. As a new article of manufacture, a locking member for a chain or bracelet, consisting of an arm, a projection upon the arm,- a resilient tongue disposed at an angle to the arm, said arm and tongue being disposed substantially parallel and extended in the same direction, and a substantially V shaped portion connectmgthe arm and tongue.
