To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORRIS E. THOMPSON,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Fayette and" State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Disk-Harrow Boxings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in boxings and bearings and is especially adapted to be used in connection with disk harrows.
An important object of my invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is dust and dirt proof and keeps the spindle thoroughly lubricated.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character including means whereby the disks may be removed and the boxing passed over the ends of the spindle.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of 'the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, strong, durable and efficient in practice.
Other objects and advanta es of the invention will be apparent during the course .of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of the description, and wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred em bodiment of my invention, the numeral 3 designates one end of a square shaft or axle which rotates with the spindle .4. This spindle is provided with an enlargement 5 which when positioned in the boxing prevents any lateral or longitudinal movement of the same. Beveled washers 6, arranged upon the ends of the spindle and mounted upon the axle'are adapted to engage the opposite faces of the disks 7 One of each pair of washers has one face adjacent the disk,
' beveled concave, while the other, or coacting washer, has its face adjacent the 0pposite side of the disk, convex. This arrangement aflords a secure clamping means for mounting the disks upon the axle or shaft 3. It will be noted that these washers are Specification of Letters Patent.

formed separate from the spindle, thereby making it possible to pass the sections of boxlng over the ends of' the spindle. The spindle 4 is adapted to rotate within thesta t onary boxing, which consists of two sections 8 and 9. These sections are normally secured together by means of the bolts 10,
or any suitable means. The section 8, ad-
jacent its coacting section 9, is provided with a recess to receive the enlarged portion- 5 of the spindle. The outer ends of the boxing are adapted to snugly fit the spindle, and are oppositely externally threaded to-recelve apertured packing caps 11. A lubricatlng means, such as waste saturated with anoil, is positioned between the ends of the threaded portions of the boxing and the packlng caps. An oil duct 12 in the section 9 has communication with the spindle proper, While the oil duct 13 has its termi-' nal upon the enlargement 5 of the spindle.
This boxing or bearing may be suspended from the harrow frame by any suitable means, and it will be seen that this boxing being stationary, and the disks rolling along the ground, will rotate the axle and spindle within this bearing. In order to remove the boxing, the nut and washer positioned on the end of the axle are moved and the disk and beveled washers passed vover the end of the axle. The nuts and bolts 10 are then removed from the boxing, and the section comprising one half the boxing passed over the end of the axle.
It is to be understood that the form of in consisting of a pair of sections, one of sa1d sections being provided with a recess adjacent the 'boretherethrough, and a spindle rotatably mounted in said housing, said spindle being provided with an enlargement adapted to be received in the recess in said section. 3. A boxing comprising a housing consisting of a pair of sections having a bore therethrough, one of said sections having its face adjacent the co-acting section provided with a recess communicating with the bore therethrough, a spindle rotatably mounted in said housing, said spindle being provided with an. annular flange to be received in said recess.
4. A boxing comprising ahousing having a bore therethrough, said bore having an enlarged part intermediate its end, a spindle rotatably mountedin said housing, said spindle being provided with an annular flange adapted to be received in the enlarged part of said bore, said housing being provided with a pair of oil ducts one'of which communicates with the enlarged part of the bore, and the other being adapted to communicate with the bore through the housing.
5. In combination with a housing consisting of a pair of sections each having a bore therethrough, a spindle rotatably mounted therein, a square shaft passing through said MORRIS E. THOMPSON.
