Description

H L. COOPERSTEIN. v INTERCHANGEABLE FACING FOR ARTIFICIAL TEETH AND BACKING FOR THE SAM E.
APPLICATION FILED MAR- 29.1917.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS COOPERSTEIN, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
INTERGHANGEABLE FACING FOR ARTIFICIAL TEETH AND BACKING FOR THE SAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1918.
Application filed March 29, 1917. Serial No. 158,462.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS Coornesrnnv, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Portland, county of Multnomah, State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Interchangeable Facings for Artificial Teeth and Backing for the same.
The invention is embodied in the construction and combination of a porcelain facing and metal backing, as hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an artificial tooth facing, and,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the backing for the same.
The facing is shown in Fig. 1 as having the incisal or upper cutting edge 8, a fiat inner surface 9, and a cervical portion 13. The said facing is provided with a triangular recess 6, which is beveled inwardly and has a rear flat wall, termed the basal wall. The side walls 11 converge toward the top of the recess. The base or cervical wall 5 dips or inclines inward and downward.
Fig. 2 of the drawing which represents the backing in perspective is attached to and supports the porcelain facing shown detached in Fig. 1. The body of the backing is fiat, and its upper end 33 is bent laterally, corresponding to the inclination 9 of the top portion of the facing, so that when the backing is applied to the facing, its top portion 33 lies flat upon the incisal edge 9 of the casing.
The inside wall or facing of the backing is constructed with a projecting triangular lug or tongue 32, corresponding to the triangular recess 6 in the facing, and serving as a means of securing the latter to the backmg.
The apex and side edges of the recess are undercut or beveled inwardly and the apex and side edges of the tongue are correspondingly beveled or inclined outwardly.
In assembling the parts, to wit; the facing-and backing, they are pressed together, and in such operation the tongue 32 slides upward and the apex and side edges of the same thus project under and engage the undercut apex and side walls of the recess,
at an angle to its back, the latter provided with a triangular recess whose apex and side edges are undercut, and a metal backing having an angular top flange upon its body and provided centrally with a projecting triangular tongue, whose apex and side edges are beveled outwardly whereby the said tongue is adapted to engage in the recess of the facing, as shown and described.
2. The artificial tooth facing having its incisal edge inclined to its flat inner sur:
face, the latter being provided centrally with a triangular recess whose apex is directed'upward and is parallel to the incisal edge, the sides of the recess converging to said apex and being undercut, as described. In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses. DR. LOUIS COOPERSTEIN. Witnesses:
H. F. Nnw'rox, ANNA CoNLnY.
