M Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. asra, filed May 19, 1917. Serial No. 206,113.

Continuation part ofepplieation To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN SCHUMAGHER and Josnrn E. SCHUMACHER, both citizens of the United States, residing at Los An-' geles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful in. Apparatus for Finishing Plaster-Board and the like, 'of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements lIl apparatus for finishing plaster board and the like, prior to the drying of the board. is in part a division of our application filed Serial No. 98,572, which culminated in Patent N 0. 1,259,049, and resides in the provision of means for supporting plaster board so that it may be readily transported and safely handled while moist and before the hardening thereof without the tearing or derangement thereof.
In the method of handling plaster board such as this invention is associated with, the newly made board is stacked one unit upon the other horizontally in relatively large sheets, and as these sheets are moist, the plaster not having become set at th s time, it is impossible to pick up the indlvidual sheets or units when lying in stacked relation horizontally without a. resultant tear- 1 th Inasmuch as it sheets or. units I v in 'vertical or. substantially upright relation upon a-frame which is run into a kiln in order to drythe plaster board, it is the primary ob ect of this invention to provide a supporting means for the stacked sheets, which means may be disposed so as to lie in substantially upright position and to thus dispose the sheets in corresponding position so that they may be readily individually handled while held in substantially upright position without the possibility of breakage, tearing or other derangements.
ing or derangement thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide means ofthe character described which is simple as to construction,inexpensive-and capable ofbeing readily and easily operated.
The invention further consists in the particular arrangement, combination, association and inter-relation of all of the parts and elements of the invention, such as hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and finally pointed out in the appended claims. Other objects and ad- Patented flee. 3, i918. 1916. I This application filed December 7 vantages will ap ear during the course of the following description.
\ In the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view of finishing apparatus constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, illustrating the tray in horizontal position in dotted lines;
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the supporting frame or means for holding the sheets in upright spaced relation, showing thesame in operative relation to the tray in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, A designates a truck or, movable supporting means which has rollers B mounted upon rails C; D designates means for supporting designates a truck for supporting plaster board relation to facilitate the drying thereof; G the plaster board upon said truck F; and H the spacing members.
The means D comprises a substantially flat tray having a flat body portion or bot tom land a side wall 2'disposed on one 1on7 gitudinal at right angles gage the truck A when the tray is tilted or disposed'in substantially upright position. ny suitable means, such for example as the prop J indicated in dotted. lines in F g. 2
0f the drawing, may be-provided to hold the tray in substantially upright position.
In operation, the
mg been newly formed and cut into lengths latter being supported in horizontal position upon the truck The plaster board at this time is somewhat moist, the plaster not having become set or hardened, and to facilitate, the handling of the sheets individually, without breakage. or derangement. the tray D is tilted into substantially upright orvertical position as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. In the stacking of the sheets E of plaster board the edges of such sheets are brought to engage the said wall 2 and when t e tray is tilted said side wall serves to support the sheets together with the body portion 1 in substantially upright position,
the means such as indicated at J in Fig. 2

The 'Wedge feet members 3 will position, and means for supporting the tray engage the truck A and dispose the tray and in an inclined position With the edges of the sheets at such an angle that the latter may plaster board sheets resting upon the side be readily and safely handled individually.
