SUPPORT FOR PLAYING-CARDS FOR USE BY CARD-PLAYERS..
' To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EUGI JNE RIBEYRE, of Lyon, France, a citizen of the French Re public, have invented a certain new or Im proved Support for Playing-Cards for Use by Card-Players, of which the following is a specification.
' The support for playing cards intended for use by card-players which forms the subject of the invention is characterized by the general arrangement of its construction.' --The device is intended to obviate the necessity of holding the cards in the hand the cards being arranged in a holder mounted on the. support in such manner that the cards can be easily read, owing to the variable inclination which can in certain cases be given to the support.
The present device is intended particularly for the use of persons crippled or paralyzed in one arm or a hand as it enables them to tained in the position selected by is fixed to the edge of a table 18 by means of the clamp 20 and its screw 21 it can be turned around the axis 22 and can be maintightening the milled button 23.
The cards can be inclined as desired, and if required completely turned down by the following means. I
The support 17 is jointed by the swivel 24 to the socket 25 of the card holder, which,
by its fan-shaped arrangement and concave form reproduces exactly the ordinary position of cards held in the human hand. A milled button 26 enables the holder to be fixed at the inclination preferred by the player.
The holder into which the cards are inserted is composed essentially of the three following parts: a semi-circular back plate 27 forming a curved backxsupport for the cards; a front plate 28 of similar shape but of lesser diameter, and a spindle 29 for con- Specification of Letters Patent.

meeting by means of a screw-threaded milled button 30 the two plates 27 and 28. The cards 31 are arranged and fixed between the two plates. The cards are engaged by their edges against the edge of a semi-circular felt strip 32 fastened to the front of the plate 27 and are retained between' the two plates by means of a strip 33 of elastic material, such as: cloth, felt rubber, etc., fixed to the inside of the front plate 28.
A pin 34 fixed to the plate 27 and engaging in a corresponding hole in the plate 28 allows of maintaining the position between the two plates. By loosening or tightening the button 30 the pressure exerted on the 'cards by the strip 38 can be regulated ac'-' cording to the number of cards displayed or left in the holder.
The cards can be turned down from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that represented in dotted lines by simply pressing down the holder.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A support for playing cards for the use of persons deprived of the use of one hand, comprising a gripping device for the cards, means for regulating the pressure of said deviceupon the cards, an arm attached to said gripping device, a support to which said arm is hinged so that the gripping device and the cards can be inclined or completely turned downward, a milled button for fixing the gripping device in the desired inclined position, a clamp for fixing said support to a table, means connecting said support to said clamp, whereby the holder and. gripping device can be turned around a vertical axis, and means for fixing the holder in the latter adjusted position.
2. A support for playing cards comprismg a semi-circular plate, an abutment thereon, a second semi-circular plate, an elastic strip thereon, means for pressing said plates together, means for regulating the pressure of said device upon the cards, an arm tached to card gripping device, a support to which said arm is hinged so that the grlppmg device and the cards can be inclined or completely turned downward, a mlled button for fixing the gripping device 1n the desired inclined position, a clamp for fixing said support to a table, a vertical pivot upon the upper surface of said clamp, a horizontal plate fixed to the lower end of said support and rotatable about said pivot whereby said support can be turned upon said pivot, and a milled button for fixing said support in the adjusted position.
I In witness whereof I have 'signed this specification in the presence of two Witnesses.
