have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Surgical Instruments, of

.In Fig. 4 I have shown a modification in which the tongue depressor and reflector 10 is made fiat, and with. an integral split ring 11 adapted to be slipped over the ring 3, and to be frictionally held thereon against turning.

Fig. o shows an ear and nose speculum 12, having an integral split ring 13 adapted to be slipped over the ring 3. The body of the speculum is preferably conicalwith the base, or larger opening at the end at which it is attached to the casing 1. Therays of light from the bulb 2 will be concentrated by the speculum and directed into the nose or car, the operator having an unobstructed View through the speculum.

In Fig. 7 the light reflecting surfaces 14. and 15 are secured together and so formed as to adapt the speculum to an examination of the eye. To the frame is attached a tongue 16 by which the speculum may be clamped to the casing 1, by means of the collar 4.

The several devices above described pro vide a ready and simple means for attaching and detaching the desired form of speculum to the battery casing. The latter is of such form as to be carried in the poclet, the speculum being detached if deslre What ll claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is I 1. The combination with a self-contained pocket'electric lamp ,of a tubular form having a detachable lamp-socket adapted to he inserted into one end of the tube form by end of said tube form, of a spring collarsurrounding the bulb end of said tube form and having an outside diameter not less than that of said flange, a clamping collar arranged to be slid over said flange onto said spring collar and having diametrically opposite recesses in its inner face, areflecting tongue depressor and a reflector having holding tonguesor shanks arranged to be inserted into said recesses between the said collars, and a set screw carried by said clamping collar.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a source of light, a tongue essee? depressor having a reflecting surface, and
