EDWARD TINKHAM (mason, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COPY-HOLDER.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed'Aug'ust 10, 1918. Serial No. 249,301.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD TINKHAM Gnsson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Copy-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description,
This invention relates to holders for copybearing stationery and has for an object the provision of a copy holder adapted to hold loose-leaf copy or an end-bound note book in a downwardly and forwardly inclined position.
Another object in view is the provision of a copy holder which is formed with a movable line guide which is adapted to aline with any width of the copy.
These objects are accomplished by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a copy holder disclosing an embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view on a reduced scale of the line guide and its holder, the full lines showing the normal position of the holder arms and the dotted lines the sprung position which the arms will assume if the line guide is removed.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view through Fig. 1 on line X-X.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a support having a base 2 and an upright 3. Attached to the upper end of the upright 3 is a shelf 4 which is inclined downwardly and forwardly and rests on the forward end 5 of the base 2 and projects below the base 2 to accomplish the first mentioned object of my invention. 6 indicates a stop-strip having its longitudinal axis in parallel relation with the transverse diameter of the said shelf 4 and is secured to the latter near the lower end of the same to project forwardly to prevent the downward sliding of a sheet of stationery, 7 from off the front surface of the shelf.
A pair of looped members 8 and 9 are secured to the shelf 4 near the lower end and act as hangers for the bar 10, which bar merges into resilient side arms 11 and 12, said arms having, preferably, turned ends,
13 and 14. A line guide 15 is provided, said line guide having apertured ends 16 and 17 slidably fitted on the arms 11 and 12 whereby the guide may be moved to any line on copy-bearing stationery suitably disposed on the said shelf 4. As shown in Fig. 2 the arms 11 and 12 are resilient whereby the spreading strain on the line guide 15 will cause said guide to remain in any position in which it is placed.
For holding a stenographers end-bound note-book, 18, a fragment of which is shown in Fig. 1,. on the shelf 4 a book-hanging member 19 is provided, said book-hanging member comprising a central bar portion 20 positioned in front of the front surface of the shelf 4 and having its longitudinal axis in parallel relation with the transverse axis of the said shelf, the said bar portion 20 merging into rearwardly bent portions 21 and 22 that are loosely fitted in slots 23 and 24, respectively, formed in the shelf 4. The said portions 21 and 22 merge (as shown in Fig. 3) into bent ends 25 and 26 respectively, and these ends 25-and 26 are positioned at a suitable distance from the said bar portion 20 to adapt the latter to be drawn forwardly away from the front surface of the shelf 4 a suitable distance to admit of the back portion 27 of a stenographers end-bound note book 18 being slid downwardly between the shelf 4 and the said bar 20 to hang the said book on the said bar 20.
In Fig. 1, 28 indicates turned-back leaves of the stenographersnote book 18, and it will be seen that the turned ends 13 and 14 of the arms 11 and 12, respectively, are adapted to hold the said leaves 28 in a turned-back condition.
What I claim is;
1. A copy holder comprising a shelf for holding copy, a book-hanging member on the said shelf for hanging an end-bound note book on the face of said shelf, a pair of looped members arranged on said shelf, a pair of resilient arms journaled in said looped members, and a line guide slidably mounted on said arms; said arms having turned ends for holding turned-back leaves of the said note book away from the face of the remaining portion ofthe note book.
2. A copy holder comprising a shelf for Patented Nov. 12, 1918.
