INCUBATOR.
Speciilcatlon of Letters Patent.
Patented N 0V. 12, 1918.
Application led March 13, 1918. Serial No. 222,209.
To all whom it 'may concern.'
Br known that I, Enoon M. CnUMr'roN, a citmen of the United States, residing at Bryson, in the county of Jack and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements invlnculbators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in` vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawingsand to the letters and fi res of reference marked thereon, which orma part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in incubators vand comprises a chamber with shafts journaled in the walls thereof, and in the provision of egg trays made up of two complemented parts hinged together, and having partitions which are 'held together when-the sect-ions are closed to receive the shafts with which the trays rotate.
The present invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings. which`r wlth the letters of reference marked thereon, formeJ part of this application and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views in which,
Figure is a side elevation of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view through the incubator.
Fig. 3 -is a sectional View takeny on line 3, 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the side at right angles to the showing in Fi 1. y
Rei erence now `beingr had to the details of the drawings by letter A designates the casing of the incubator which may be made of any suitable material. and B designates legs of the apparatus. The incubator has an inner wall A spaced apart. from the outer wall, leaving a hot air space between the walls. A suitable lamp C supported upon the table Bl upon the cleats B2, has a burner C2 und u chimney C with vent holes C* therein. The upper portion of the chimney passes through a hole in the bottom of the casing and forms means for cli-- recting the heat from the lamp to the heat ing tank D from which pipes D' lead in four directions to the spaces betweenthe two walls. The innerwall A has apertures for the reception of the perforated ends D3 Aan opening in the bottom of of the pipes D2 which commuiicatewith the pipes D'.
Said tank D has a 0 pipe D leading from` its top centrally and which extends through the incubator chamber, and has fitted thereto a cap D.
The incubator is provided with a. suitable' hinged top E with glass panels E. and egg trap made up of sections G and G are4 hinged together at G, and their free edge l have fastening latches G. Within the egg trays are partitions forming cells H to corr tain the eggs. The trays are fixed to the shafts F, which are journaled in the opposite Walls of the4 incubator as at F. To 7i corresponding ends of the shafts are secured the bevel gear wheels F2, each in mesh with a beveled pinion l?a keyed to a shaft F journaled in bearings K F". A gear wheel K3 is keyed to the shaft F and K2 is a crank handle also fastened to the end of the shaft F* for operating same when the apparatus is to be actuated by manual power. Journaled in the bracket K. is a shaft K to which a gear wheel K is splined as at K, and K' is a set screw engaging a threaded hole in the hub of the gear wheel K, and forms means whereby the wheel K may be held in different adjusted positions accordingly as it may be desired to cause wheels Ks and K to turn together, when the apparatus is adiusted to operate automatically. A suitable clock workI mechanism is mounted inthe casing M suppo on the bracket M and M is a. gear Whse' actuated by the clock-work, and which` when the gear wheel K is at its farthest limit toward the incubator casinmg. mesh with the wheelK. In this arrengernent, the trays mayxbe givA revolution at any predetermined meme i;J through the medium of the clock` work..Y si? In operation the eggspare placed within? the cells of the trays and fitted therein so f that when the trays are. rotated, the eggs 10c will not be jarred by the rotary movementsv of the trays. Heat gt the desired temperature for proper incubation of the eggs is furnished from the lamp, and a suicent quantity of moisture is introduced into'thc 10'6 interior thereof through the pipes D', and which moisture will tend 'tomoisten and soften the egg shells to the right consistency.- When it is desired to have the trays rotated automatically through the medium of the l1? the medium of the handle K2.
What I claim to be new is,-
In an incubator chamber, a shaft journaled in the opposite walls thereof having a portion angular in cross section, an egg tray made up of two complemental parts hinged together and provided with parti..
tions, the adjacent ends of which are adapted to be held together when the sections are closed.Y the partitions in central sections thereof having angular outlined recesses to receive the angular portion of the shaft, and means;l for rotating the shaft.
In testimony whereof I hereunto alix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
