have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Locks, of which the following ls'a specification.

enerally stated, the object of my invention is to provide a novel and comparatively inexpensive form of door lock which can be used on arage doors, or for other phrposes', and w ich can be easi'l varied so that the keys thereof will all be 0 slightly different shapes, whereby the key of one look will not operate any of the other looks, at least so far as a certain number of the locks is concerned, and whereby sliding or other doors maybe provided with locks which will afford ample protection.
- Another object is to provide a lock of this as kind in which inner means are provided for the operation of the look, without using the key, so that should the door of the garage be" closed, after the owner enters, the lock can then be operated from the inside to unlock so the door.

The casing A has its end toward the catch C provided with an opening a to receive said catch, and the mechanism comprises a pair of pivoted jawsE and F which are pivoted to the casing at e and I, which are provided with hook-shaped end-portions 1 and 2'for e agin the opening 0 1n the stationary catc he two jaws are in the nature of a pair of levers, andare provided with pins 3 and 4 at their other ends. The shortest lug 12 of the key passes under the flange 1' of the plate G, so that the key can rotate to the position shown in Fig. 4 thereby to un- The unlocking operation causes a separation of the hook- shaped endportions 1 and 2 against the pressure of the springs 13 and 14 which bear against the said aws. The mechanism, however, is selfrctained in the condition shown in Fig. 4,, as when the parts are in these positions the ressure of the cam 8 against the lhg 9 of the Key is in a direction to keep the latter against the stop 15 of the lock-casing. To enable the lug 12 to pass below the plate. G. thev flange g of said plate is provided with a notch 16, and the lower edge of this plate is received by the notclr'il'i in said key. Of course, the lock will operate without the" Iates G, J and K. and in suchcasc only the u 9 on the .key will be necessary. These additional plates, however. make it more difficult to pick the lock. and necessitate the.
use of a special key. havin the shape shown in Fig. 'i', and the keys 0 other shapes will not operate this particular lock. ()no or more of said plates can be omitted. or additional similar plates can be employed, as
may he desired, necessitating keys of different shapes for the difi'erent'locks.
As thus described, .the lock is operable only from the outside throu h the medium of akcv inserted through t e kev-hole 10. which latter is in alinement with an opening in the door. In order. however, that the lock may be operated from the inside. should the door be-closed after the owner of the garage has entered. the lock-casing A is provided at one end thereof with a movable. section 20 mounted on an arm 21 which is pivoted at 22 inside ofj-the casing. This section 20 is provided with a screw or other engaging portion 23 for en lging the upper end-portion 24 of the plate so that inward pressure of this section, in the manner shown m Fig. 5, will operate the plate H to'unloelt the door. This section 20 is not noticeable, as the exterior of the lm-k-cas'in may be of such character that'this )rovismn will not be obvious and will only e known, for example, to the owner of the garage. It will be understood, of course, that the lock-casing A and the catch C can he interchanged so that the catch will he movable and the lock-casi|u stationary. Also, the mechanism can-he applied to divided doors,
the casing A being mounted on one scctionm of the door, and the catch being mounted on the other section of the door, so that the catch and the ltx'k-lneclnmisln will come together when the two sections of the d or are brought together or closed. The. catch is adapted to be forcibly wcdgcdhetwccn the two lunar-portions 1 and when the door is closed. so that these hook-portions will onter the-o )eniug c in said catch. thereby holding the door in locked condition.
What I claim as my invention is I. A door lock comprising a casing having a key-hole, a catch outside the casing. pivoted means inside to engage. said catch, when the catch enters the casing, an oscillating element having cam-engagement with said means, so that operation of said lenient. from normal position disen n'ges said means from said catch. a pivot. or said element, and a key insertihlcthrough said key-hole to operate said element and mcanssaid element having a cam to engage'said key. so that said key and said element-turn in opposite directions when the door is nnlocker said means including a air of gaws pivoted between their ends. an e ement being a plate provided with acau'f-for the rear end 1.142

8. Thestructure of claim 1, springs to re tain said means in normal position to receive said catch, and means to hold said key in position to retain said means in open position against the action of said springs.
9. A door lock'provided with an outer casing, having an opening in the wall thereof. and a movable SQCtlOfl which fits said opening and which is movable inwardly for operating the lock, and mechanism inside the casing for operation by said movable section to unlock the door from inside.
