WARPING OF THE AEROPLANE-WINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GUIDO ANTONI, draftsman, and Uoo ANToNI, employee, sub jects of the King of Italy, residents of Pisa, in the Kingdom of Italy, No. 1 Via Cappuccini, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to the Arrangements for the Varping of the Aeroplane- Wings, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is an improved arrangement for the warping of aeroplane wings (wing twisting or gauchiscement) whereby the inclined position of the machine during the warping is rendered moreefficient inasmuch as by a single operation of the controlling apparatus a portion of the lower side of the wing surfaces is raised and a portion of the higher side of wing surface is lowered. A further feature is that only the front suspension wires are subjected to a sliding motion and therewith to stresses while the center ones which carry the largest part of the weight are inoperative.
While heretofore the warping was obtained by the operation of the central cross girder the invention essentially consists in that the Warping is effected by only operating the front cross-girder, the center cross girder being held at rest.
Referring to the accompanying drawings:
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a front and side view of a machine having symmetrical wings during normal flight.
Figs. 3 and 4 show the same machine in front and side view respectively, with the wings in warped position.

The central cross-girders -cZ- are rigid with the frame while the front crossgirders -a-'are pivotally connected with the frame at -e, e the arrangement being such that said front girders are adapted to be swung vertically in opposite directions Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the when operated by wires b, 6- comiecting the girders a with the lower portion of the frame. The wires b, b are actuated by means of cords g, 9-- adapted to be moved in opposite directions by a pulley -hoperated by a lever -Z-. As shown in Fig. 3 the wings are connected with one another by wires 1), 6 attached to the front girders a, a, and passing over rollers (not shown) carried by the upper portion of the frame, so that when the wires 6 on one side of the frame are operated to depress one girder a the other girder a is lifted to an equivalent extent by the action of the wires ?2 Z). Instead of two pivots e, e the machine frame may carry only a single pivot located centrally thereof, in which case it will be obvious that the two cross-girders may be rigidly connected with one another. Fixed suspension wires -c serve to strengthen the rigid connection of the central girders 0L with the frame -j-.
It will be understood that various changes may be made in the embodiment above described without departing from the scope of our invention as defined by the following claim.
Having now described our invention and how the same is to be carried out, what we claim as our invention, is:
In a flying machine the combination of a longitudinal frame, a pair of supporting planes extending transversely of said frame on opposite sides thereof, said planes having each a central cross-girder rigidly con nected with said frame and a front crossgirder pivotally connected with said frame, and means for moving said front crossgirders vertically in opposite directions with respect to said frame.
