W. O. PARKER.
SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 1 19M.
1,283,4Q3. Patented Oct. 29, 1918.
mi Him OOOOOOOOOQOOOOO 00000000900000 INVENTOR WITNESSES:
WALLACE O. PARKER, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA.
SALT AN D PEPPER SHAKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 29, 1918.
Application filed February 7, 1914. Serial No. 817,203.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. lVanLAcn O. PARKER, a. citizen of the United States, residin in Oklahoma, in the county and State of 0 lahoma, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Salt and Pepper Shak ers, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has reference to salt and pepper shakers, so called, and consists in providing a receptacle with a partition, so that salt may be put in one part, and pepper in the other, and also in providing a perforated cap for the receptacle and a pivoted shield to cover some of the perforations, While others are uncovered.
The drawings accompanying and forming a part of this specification show an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is an elevation of a shaker.
Fig. 2 is a diametric section in elevation thereof, with the cap and attached shield or guard, removed.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are inverted views of a cap, with the shield in various positions.
- In the views, similar characters of reference indicate similar parts.
A receptacle 6 is provided with a partitlon 7, converting the receptacle into parts 8 and 9.
A cap 10 is securable to the receptacle 6,
for instance as by its rim coming into screwthreaded association with a head 11, spiraled about the neck 12 of the receptacle.
The cap is perforated as at 13, a portion of the rim being struck outwardly to form a bulge or flange 13. A shield 14 is pivotally mounted upon the underside of the cap 10 as at 15, and is provided with a finger-piece 16, which passes through a circumferential slot 17, formed in the upper portion of the flange 13, so that the said finger-piece may be grasped by the fingers to actuate the shield 14, on its pivot, said finger-piece extending upwardly through said slot, as above stated, and then downwardly outside of the receptacle 6 as seen particularly in Figs. 1 and 4 for convenient actuation of the guard. It will also be seen that by means of the semi-circular slot 17 the guard 14 is adapted to be adjusted at any angle, included in the entire circle prescribed by the contour of the condiment-holder thus being characterized for its simplicity of construction. arrangement and operation of parts.
The cap is furnished with a stud 18 to act as a stop for the shield in either of its extreme positions.
Assuming salt to be in part 8, and pepper in part 9, and by reference to Fig. 3, it will be seen that the salt can be obtained, whereas, by shifting to the other extreme, as in Fig. 5, pepper can be obtained, and by shifting the shield to the intermediate position in Fig. 3, both salt and pepper can be had.
Having thus described this invention, I claim:
A condiment holder having a subdividing member dividing the same into compartments, a foraminous cap fitted upon said holder and having a lateral bulge provided with a concentric slot facing the underside of the cap and extending upwardly, intermediately of the edge of said cap and said bulge, and a semi-circular imperforate guard centrally pivoted at one edge upon the upper edge of said partition and provided with a finger actuated member conforming in outline to the upwardly extending portion of said slot and extending downwardly, exteriorly of said bulge portion of the cap.
Signed at Oklahoma, in the county and State of Oklahoma, this 24th day of J anuary, 1914.
WALLACE O. PARKER.
Witnesses:
