To aZZ whom it may concern: 7 H b Be it known thatI, JAMES E. HAssoN, a citizen of the United States,and a resident of Aliceville, in the county of Plckens and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Beds, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is an improvement in folding beds, and has for. its object to provide a bed of the character specified, especially adapted for babies, wherein the bed is connected with the bed of the mother, mgsuch manner that it may be moved nto a position at the level of the mothers bed and at the side thereof, and without any obstruction between the bed and the bed of the mother, to permit the mother to attend to the wants of the baby, and then when not in usethe bed may be folded and left in suspended position supported by the imothers bed.

The present embodiment of the nvention comprises a bed body, which is composed of a substantially rectangular frame of angle material, and consists of side rails land sectional end rails, each end rail consisting of three sections, 2, 3 and 4:.

3 and 4; by means of hinges 5, the said hinges being on the upper faces of'the section. The body of the bed is completed by aspring mattress 6, which .is connected at its ends to the end rails. Each end ofthe mattress is connected to the sections of the adjacent tions.

The sections of the end rails are held in rigid 'alinement by means of latch plates the section 2, as indicated at 10, and adapted to engage a hasp 11 on the

When the latch plates are swung in the position of Fig. 7, the sections are released to permit the folding of the bed, while when the latches are in the position of Figs. 2 and 3, the sections of the bed are held in rigid alinement. The bed frame or bottom is supported by means of sectional legs. Each legconsists of a lower section 12, of tubular form, and an upper section 13, which is mounted to slide in the lower section and is held in adjusted position by means of a set screw 14:. The upper section 13 of each leg is hinged to a hinge'lug 15 secured to the adjacent section 3 or i, as the case may be, of the end rail, in such manner that the leg may be folded into the plane of the bed or at right angles thereto, as shown in Figs. 3 and 6. I

That side of the bed which is intended to be adjacent the bed of the parents, is open as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, while that side adjacent side rail 1 by means of rivets 17.

At each end of the bed end boards are provided, each end board consisting of three sections, a central and two lateral sections, and the said sections are connected to the central and lateral sections of the end rails, each end rail consisting also of a central and lateral sections. An end board section 20 is .hinged'to each section 3 and l of each end rail, and a similar section 20 is rigidly secured to the section 2 of each end rail.

3 and 4, as indicated at 21 in Fig. 6, in such manner that they may be folded inwardly upon the horizontal portions of the side rail sections. These

20 and 20 at each end of the bed, are held in alinement and in the same'plane, by means of latches 22, corresponding in arrangement to the latches 9. Each latch 22 is hinged to a section 20 and engages a hasp 011 the sec tion 23.

means of rings 25. These rings 25 are passed through openlngs 1n the side board and in the side rail, and loosely hinge the plate to the side rail. This plate 24 is provided at tially rectangular frame consisting of side its ends with outwardly extending lugs 18 which are adapted for engagement by catches 19, which are pivoted to the adjacent sections 20 of the end boards. hen thebed is in use, the plate 52 i folds up alongside and parallel with the side board 16, and is held in such position by the engagement of the catches 19 with the lugs 18. lVhenthe bed is unfolded for use the parts occupy the position of Figs. 1 and 3.

The sections2, 3 and 4 of the end rail are alined and are held rigidly in such position by the latches 9. The side boardis erect, as are also the sections 20 of the end boards, and when the sections 20 of the end members are swung upward into the plane of the sections 20, the latches 22 may be engaged with the hasps 23 and the catches 19 with the lugs 18 to hold the parts in such position, and to hold the plate 24; parallel with the side board 16. The legs may be adjusted 'to the proper length to support the bed atthe level of the mothers bed, by means of the set screws 14;. In order to connect the bed with the mothers bed when in use, and to support the bed when folded, clips 26 of substantially U- shape are secured to that side rail 1 remote from the side board 16. These clips are adapted to engage over the side rail 27 of the mothers bed and prevent movement of the childs bed away from the mothers bed when the childs bed is in use. When the said bed is in folded position, the clips 26 support the folded bed. i

In'order to fold the bed, the latches 22 are disengaged, as are also the catches 19, and the end board sections 20 are folded down upon the bed. The latches 8 and 9 are now released, and the end rail sections 4, and the adjacent side rail are foldedover, until the plate 16 is above the upper edges of the section 20 of the end board. ward swinging movement of the leg.

I claim: 1. A foldlng bed comprising a substanrailsand sectional end rails, each end-rail being composed of a central section and lateral sections hinged to the central section and rigid with the adjacent side rail, means for holdingthe sections in rigid alineinent, an. end board section rigld' with the central section of each end rall, end board sections lower edge of the plate, and adapted to fold onto the side board or downward beneath the bed,"and means for holding the said plate in the first named position, legs hinged to the lateral sections ofthe endrails to fold upwardly upon the bed or downwardly'into extended position, each leg jbeing. sectional and having means for holding the sections in adjusted position.

A folding bed, comprising a substantially rectangular frame consisting of side and end rails, theend railsbei'ng sectioned, each having a central section and lateral sections hinged thereto and rigid with the side rails, means for holdingthe end rail sections in alinement, a side board secured to oneside rail, an end boardsection connected to each end rail section, the sections of the lateral end rail sections being, hinged thereto, a cover plate hinged to the slde rail provlded with the side board, and means for holding the said plate superposed on the side board when the bed is in use.
