To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, JOHN 1V. Bunenss and GEORGE F. Bunenss, citizens of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson, State ofMis souri, have invented a new and useful Tire, of which :the following: :is a specification- The device forming the subject matter of this application is a tire, and one object of the invention is to provide a filler of novel form, which will displace pneumatic tubes and like elements, which are subject to puncture and deterioration.
Another object of the invention is to provide a structure of the kind mentioned, wherein the springs are so connected with each other and with the bands between which the springs lie, that the tire will possess the necessary qualities to enable it to resist side skidding as well as radial compression, the resiliency of the structure being enhanced.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away and parts appearing in section;

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a flexible outer band 1 and a flexible inner band 2. Lugs 3 are disposed in alinement, transversely of the tire, and are attached by securing devices 1 to the outer band 1. Lugs 5 are disposed in alinement, transversely of the tire, and are attached by securing devices 6 to the inner band 2.

springs bearing on the inner band 2 about the lugs 5, the resilient buffers-7 being received within the contour of the springs. The outer convolutions oftlie springs 8 surround the lugs 3 011 the outer band 1, and an mtegral connection 9 extends diagonally across the line connecting the axes of: the springs. The structure above described is placed within a casing 10 assembled in any desired way with a rim 11. A resilient base strip 12 lies between the longitudinal edges of the casing 11 and is interposed between the inner band 2 and the base portion of the rim 11. A resilient tread strip 14 is interposed between the band 1 and the tread portion of the casing 10, the strips 12 and 11 corresponding closely to the cross section of the casing, so as to fit securely and snugly therein. Preferably, the strip 14 is not secured to the band 1 and the strip 12 is not secured to the band 2.
Various materials may be employed in the making of the parts above described. The strips 12 and 14 may be fashioned from rubber. The bands 1 and 2 may be made of rubberized canvas, disposed in layers and vulcanized together. The lugs 3 and 5 may be made of fiber. Rubber may be used in making the resilient bufi'ers 7.
Since the lugs 3 are connected to the outer band 1, and since the lugs 5 are connected to the inner band 2, the lugs do not tend to chafe the ends of the springs 8 but follow the springs, when the springs are compressed and expanded. The structure is so constituted that, although the casing 10 is adequately supported, the casing, nevertheless, will follow and conform to irregularities in the road bed. Since the outer convolutions of the springs 8 are united by the connections 9, disposed as described, the springs will have the necessary resistance to withstand lateral strains The resilient bands 12 and 14: prevent vibration and consequent crystallization of the springs, with out interfering with the compression of the springs. The bands 1 and 2 transmit the tractional stress. Since the resilient buffers 7 are employed, the shock or bump is lessened when the tire is compressed to a marked extent, the lugs 3 cooperating with the bufiers.
The bufiers 7 are not secured to the lugs 5, saving by the action of the springs 8 Which grip both the lugs and the buifers closely.
Having thus described the invention what is clanned 1s:
