Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented (Dot. 29, 1212..
Application filed April 27, 1918. Serial No. 231,165.
To all 'whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILENALDMEIER, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gulfport, in the county of Harrison and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blowpipes, of which the following is a specication.
Myinvention is an improvement in blow pipes, and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified wherein a nozzle is provided, having a blow tube in connection therewith and having arranged alongside thereof a supply tube for the fuel, a check valve being arranged between the blow tube and the nozzle, and the nozzle communicating with the fuel supply by a valved communication.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved pipe in use;
Fig. 2 is a side view with the nozzle and associated parts in section. ,j
In the present embodiment of the invention, a nozzle 1 is provided, having a detachable tip 2 at its delivery end, the other end having a nipple 3 for engagement by a eXible pipe 4 to connect the nozzle to a suitable source of fuel supply, indicated at 5, and controlled by a valve 6. A valve 7 is arranged within the nozzle adjacent to the nipple 3, and this valve provides a means for putting the bore of the nozzle into communication with the source of fuel supply.
Between the valve 7 and the tip 2 the nozzle has a laterally extending threaded nipple 8, and this nipple is engaged by a check valve casing 9, the said casing being thread ed on the nipple.
The casing 9 has a reducing union at its outer end, the inner end of the union forming a seat with which the check valve 11 cooperates, and the valve is normally pressed toward the seat by a coil spring 12 arranged between the valve and the nipple 8.
The blow tube 13 has threaded engagement with the outer end of the reducing union 10, and this blow tube has a grip or handle 14 intermediate its ends. A supply tube 15 extends longitudinally of the nozzle from a point on the inner side of the valve 7 to a point adjacent the tip 2, and the delivery end of the said tube is curved slightly toward the tip, as shown.
In use, the improved pipe is arranged as shown in Fig. 1. The operator, holdin the pipe by the grip 14, places that end of the blow tube 13 remote from the nozzle in his mouth, and, closing the valve 7, opens the valve 6, permitting the fuel, as, for instance, gas, to How through the feed tube 15. The gas, being ignited, the operator can direct the flame wherever desired, and can hold it at the proper intensity with his breath. The check valve 11 is arranged to open under the pressure of the blast of air through the blow tube and to prevent the return thereof from the nozzle.
I claim:
1. A device of the character specified, comprising a nozzle having at one end a nipple for connection with a source of fuel supply, said nozzle having a lateral nipple and a valve between the nipples, a fuel supply pipe leading from the nozzle on that side of the valve a jacent to the first named nipple and delivering at the tip of the nozzle, a blow tube connected with the last named nozzle, a check valve arranged between the blow tube and the nozzle, and a grip intermediate the ends of the blow tube.
2. A device of the character specified, comprising a nozzle having at -one end a nipple for connection with a source of fuel supply, said nozzle having a lateral nipple and a valve between the nipples, a fuel supply pipe leading from the nozzle on that side of the valve adjacent to the rst named nipple and delivering at the tip of the nozzle, and a blow tube connected with the last named nozzle.
3. A device of the character specified comprising a nozzle adapted for connection at one end with a source of fuel supply and having a lateral nipple intermediate its ends, and a fuel supply pipe leading therefrom adjacent to the connection with the source of fuel Vsupply and delivering at the tip of the nozzle, a blow pipe connected. with the lateral nipple, and a valve between the nipple and the fuel supply pipe.
