COMBINED MOP AND SCRAPER.
Application filed .Tune 14, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownv that l, Cona E. DUNAGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clifton, in the county of Greenlee and State of Arizona, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Mops and Scrapers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined mop and scraper and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for moving the scraper into and out of operative position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eificient in ,operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists n certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail,V reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a front view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a side view.
Fig. 3 is a cross section showing the means for holding the scraper in operative position.
As shown in these views the handle of the mop is shown at l and the mop carrying head at 2. 3 is the yoke for holding the mop to the head and 'connected with the operating member 4 which has one end connected with the coil spring 5 whereby mops of varying thicknesses may be secured between the yoke and the head.
As my invention Vrelates to the scraper` the parts composing 'the mop will not be described further. The scraper consists of a handle part 6 and the scraping blade 7 connected with the end of said handle and having its free end slightly curved as shown. The handle 6 is connected with the handle l of the mop by means of the rings 8 formed Specification of Letters Patent.

of metal or the like and each is provided with a pair of ears 9. Each of these ears is provided with an opening through which the handle 6 passes and said openings are so disposed that the handle 6 is spacedvfrom, but parallel with the handle l of the mop. One of the ears, preferably the upper one 1s provided with a slot l0 in its outermost edge which communicates with the opening and the handle 6 is provided with a transverse pin 1l which when the blade is in operative position will pass through the slot and engage the lower 'face of the ear to hold said blade in operative position or with said blade projecting beyond the head of the mop. The pin is so located that when the same is turned out of alinement with the slot said blade will be parallel with the head of the mop and thus be in proper position for scraping the ioo. rEhe lower part of the handle 6 is provided with a transverse pin l2 and a coil spring 13 surrounds said handle and has its ends bearing against said pin and one of said ears.
It will thus be seen that when the pin 6 is out of engagement with the bottom face of the slotted` ear the coil spring 18;,will throw the scraping blade above the head of the mop and into inoperative position.
Vhen it is desired to scrape the floor it is simply necessary to move the handle 6 downwardly until the pin 1l passes through the slot l0 and then by turning the handle to move the blade into a position parallel with the head said pin will be turned to engage the bottom face of the ear and will thus hold the scraper blade in extended position. This will leave both hands of the operator free to handle the device.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make such changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Ihat is claimed is 1. An attachment for mops comprising a handle slidingly secured to the mop handle, a scraper blade secured to the iirst mentioned handle, means for holding the blade beyond the end of the niop and spring means handle passing through said openings, a for holding the scraper' in retracted postransverse pin on said handle for engaging 10 tion. with the slotted ear to hold the scraper in 2. A device of the Class described coinextended position and spring means for nor- 5 prising a rod, a number ,of rings carried lnally holding said scraper in inoperative thereby, each ring having a pair of ears pOSOIlthereon provided with openings and one of In testirnon whereof I a'PX my si iature. 15 said ears being slotted, a scraper having a C RA EDITH DUNA AN Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents `each, `1oy addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
