Application filed May 20, 1918. Serial No. 235,892.
To all whom. it may concern:
lie it known that I, VILLIAM F. SnoLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at l'lubbell, in the county of Thayer and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Phonograph-Tablet Supports and Removers, of which the following is a speeilit-ation.
This invention relates to a device for supporting and elevating disk records or tab lets. the. device eoti nrating with the usual turn-table.
The object of the invention is to facilitate removal of the tablet from the phonograph, said term being employed broadly to designate talking machines of the disk type.
The invention also eonsistsin the. novel features of construction hereinafter deseribed, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a. plan view of a. turn table with my derive applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the parts shown in plan in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the mechanism arranged beneath the turn-table, the lat-terbeing removed; and parts being in section, the parts occupying the. position assumed when. the record 'is elevated.

. In the drawings 1 designates the top of the phonograph easing, having a turn-table 2, with deaending flange 3. Said table revolves with the usual pivot post 4,. Surrounding this post and beneath the table 2 is an annular wall 5, provided with vertical slots 6 and oblique slotsft.
Placed within said wall and concentric with the. post 'l', and out of frictional contact with both post and wall, is a flat ring 8 having projecting pins 9 adapted to work in the slots 7. l-t'esting loosely on the ring 8 is .a'second ring 10 having laterally projecting pins 11 that. work in the vertical slots 6.
Countersunk slots or openings 12 are formed in the turntable, which comprises the usual felt covering and through these openings work headed pins 13, the heads normally resting below the surface of the table so that the tablet A will rest on the felt covering. To the lower ends of these pins is connected a ring 14, normally out of contact with the rin 10.
An angled vertica bracket 15 is mounted on the casing 1 and carries a sleeve 16 in which rotates a. shaft 17 having a crankfportion 18, and bent at its free end to form a thumb piece 19. The crank portion 18 is connected by a rod 20 to a pin 9 carried by the ring 8 and formed by extending and applying an eylet to one of the'pins 9.
A brake. shoe 2.1 coii )erates with the inner face of the flange 3 o the turn-table as in Fig. 3, and is connected by pivoted links 22 and 23 with the shaft 17.
The operation of the device is as follows Normally the tablet rests in the usual position, with the brake off. When the record is to be removed the. piece '19 is gripped between the thumb and forefinger, the shaft 17 drawn alon the sleeve 1.6 from the position shown in Fig.1 to that in Fig. 3 and then given a quarter turn to lock the crank portion 18 against the angle of the bracket 15 as in Fig. 3. Through the links 22 and 23 the brake is applied and at the "same time disk 8 is rotated and lifted by the pins 9, 9" working in the slots 7. This movement lifts vertically the ring 10, which is prevented from rotation by the pins 11 traveling in the vertical slots. The ring 10 will engage the pins 13 as the brake is ap plied and lifts the pins 13 which in turn elevate the record to a point where itavill not quite clear pivot post -l. The edge of the record can then be readily grasped and removed and a new record placed in position.
Lowering of the new record by reverse operation, aided by spring 24, releases the brake and restarts the machine.

\Vhat. I claim is:+.-
1. In a device, of the kind described, a tablet receivin turn-table, pins working through said taible. a plate or ring having a vice. be engaged device that compound rotatable and vertical movement adapted to lift said ins, and means mounted adjacent said ta 1e for imparting said movement to said' ring.
A device of the kind deseribed, coniprising a pivot post and a turntable having ggdepending flange, a Wall surrounding said spost and below the turn-table and having vertical and oblique slots, rings arrangedtherein and having pins engaging respectively the said slots and engaging each other,
means for.- rotating the ring the pins of which cooperate with the oblique slots, a third. ring, pins carried by the "third mentioned ring, working through the turntable and adapted to beeiigaged by the ring having the pins working in the vertical-slot, a brake adapted to engage the flange of the turntable and means connecting the ,brake .With the ring operating means, as and for the purpose set forth.
