To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED TUCKERMAN. a citizen of the United States, residing at Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bins; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bins, particularly designed for the storage of coal, grain or analogous material, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a bin construction which will permit air circulation through the coal, grain or similar material Vstored therein, and in case of coal, so as to prevent spontaneous combustion, and the consequent destruction of the coal and also to provide a bin construction which will permit of the drainage, of the material stored therein. y
More specifically, the object of this invention is to provide a bin construction which comprises a plurality of supporting standards formed of open steel work, which have a pluralityV of plates attached thereto, the upper ends of which plates are bent inwardly and are spaced from, and extend upwardly above the lower ends of the plates next thereabove, to provide air passages to permit circulation of air through the material stored in the bin.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying rawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:
Figure l is a Vertical transverse section through a bin constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the bin structure taken transversely through the section illustrated in Fig. 1.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 19, 1918.
Patented Oct. 22, 1918. serial No. 218,134.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, l designates one side'of the bin structure as an entirety, which side is composed of a plurality of plates 2. The vplates 2 are attached to standards or posts 3. The standards or posts 3 are constructed of channel steel or similar structural steel members as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, and these members are braced, in eachpos-t structure by,diagonal braces 4- which extend from one ofl'the steel standards to the other, as clearly shown in Figs. l and 3 of the drawings so as to prov-ide an open work standard that will permit the circulation of air therethrough. The side boards 2 of the bins are Vriveted or otherwise suitably attached to the standard structure 3, as indicated at 5, and the upper edge of each of the plates 5 is bent to provide an inwardly extending angular portion 6, and an upwardly extending relatively short portion 7 which is parallel to the main body portion 8 of the side boards or side plates 2. The straight portion 7, projects upwardly beyond the lower end of the main body portion 2 of the plate next there above, and it is positioned in spaced rela-tion thereto as indicated at 9, and also clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings. This allows an air space in between the plates which so as to allow the free circulation of air through the material which is stored in the bin but it prevents the coal, grain or similar material from clogging or choking the air shaft formed in each of the post structures on each side of the bin. The sides of the bin are braced by suitable cross braces 10. The lower ends of the posts or uprights 3 rest upon suitable pillars or foundations 11 which may be constructed of concrete or any analogous material. Each of the bins is provided with a fioor 12, which floor has the upper surface thereof inclined outwardly from the conter, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, to provide pitch to the upper surface of the floor to allow drainage of the material stored in the bin.
The inclined section 6, andthe upper straight portion 7 of each of the plates or side boards 2 is shorter than the main body portions 8 of the plates, as clearly shown in Figs. 4 and 3 of the drawings, so as to permit theends of the plates to be attached to the end upright or standard structure 3 of the bin structure. k

In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed:
lhat is claimed is:
1. In a bin structure, a plurality of supporting posts having air passages extending downwardly therethrough, side plates attached to said supporting posts, each of said 1 plates having its upper edge extending upwardly above and spaced inwardly from the lower edge of the plates next there above to permit air circulation outwardly into the bin.
2. In a bin structure, supporting standards constructed of structural steel to provide free air circulation therethrough, side plates attached to said standards and having their upper edges bent inwardly and extending upwardly above the lower edge of the plate next there above and spaced inwardly therefrom to permit air circulation outwardly into the bin.
3. Ina bin structure, supporting standards constructed of structural steel to provide free air circulation therethrough, side plates attached to said standards and having their upper edges bent inwardly and extending upwardly above the lower edge of above and spaced inwardly therefrom to permit air circulation outwardly into the bin, a floor for the bin having its upper surface tapering down- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the wardly and outwardly from the center to provide a drainage vfor the bin.

In a bin structure, supporting standards constructed of structural steel to provide free air circulation therethrough, side plates attached to said standards and having their upper edges bent inwardly and extending upwardly above the lower edge of the plate next there above and spaced inwardly therefrom to permit air circulation outwardly into the bin, a floor for the bin having its upper surface tapering downwardly and outwardly from the center to provide a drainage for the bin, and cross braces bracing said standards.
5. In a bin structure, supporting standards constructed of structural steel to provide free air circulation therethrough, side plates attached to said standards and having their upper edges bent inwardly and extending upwardly above the lower edge of the plate next there above and spaced inwardly therefrom to permit airl circulation outwardly into the bin, a floor for the bin having its upper surface tapering downwardly and outwardly from the center to provide a drainage for the bin, and cross braces bracing said standards, and cupping members mounted upon the upper ends of these supporting standards vand the upper edges of the uppermost side pla-tes, said capping members having. parallel portions spaced outwardly from Vthe upperedges of the uppermost side plates vand inclined portions having their upper edges 'converging centrally of thesupporting standards.
