CLOTHESLIN E.
Clothes-Line; `and I doLhereby declare the.. following to be a' full, clear, and eXact dc-y scription of the invention, such as will-enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make4 and luse the same.
The present invention relates to ay clothes line, and has for'its objectfto provide a device of lthis character which embodies novel features of construction whereby an endless line or cable is mounted upon guide pulleys andv arranged so that different portions thereof can be readily moved' toward or away from one? end of the device, thereby facilitating the placing of clothes upon the line and the removal of clothes therefrom.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a device of this character which is comparatively simple and inexpensive in its construction, which canl be readily mounted in a yard orupon a roof and will tend to conserve space, which can be readily adjusted to -remove slack andv keep thev line Apointed out in the appended claims.
taut, and which can be quickly taken apart to make any necessary repairsor adjustment.
With these'andother objects in view, the invention" consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements'of the parts as will more fully appear as the description pro'- ceeds', the novel features thereof being Fora full understanding of the inven' tion, reference -is to be had to the following description and accompanyingdrawings, in
Figure 1 isa top plan view of a clothes linedevice constructed in accordance with the invention, portions being broken away.

Figlil is a plank view of one of the end frames with the top strip swung upwardly to showthe guide pulleys.
` Fign is 'asimilar view of theother end frame.
Fig. 6 is :aI longitudinal sectional view through the end framel which is remote from the operating wheel.
i F ig.7 is a similar view through the other end frame, being taken on the line 7 7 of Fi 1. orresponding and like parts are-referred to inthe following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates an endless clothes line which is threaded back and forth around guide pulleys upon' a pair of similar andrcomple- .mental end frames A and B. These frames are horizontally disposed and each include a pair of spaced strips between `whicha number of guide pulleys are mounted. The end frameA is provided with fourA guide. pulleys 2 which are arranged in groups of two each, while the end frame B is provided with a large drive pulley 3 and a pair of guide pulleys 4, the latter being of substantially the same size as the pulleys 2, and beinof arranged on opposite sides of the drive pulley 3.` The endless clothes line 1 is looped around the large drive pulley 3, extending from opposite sides thereof to .the corresponding pairs of guide pulleys 2.v The two reaches of the cable are carried around the respective pairs of guide pulleys 2 and then brought back to the end frame B and pa'ssed around the the connecting portion of the line extending between the guide. pulleys 4 at the rear ofthe drive p ley' 3. The end frame A is intended tobe adjustably securedtdsuitable supports such as the posts 5, while the end frame B may be rigidly secured to a suitable support such as the rail 6. A crank handle frames A and B, thereby facilitating the operation ofplacing clothes upon' the line and removing them therefrom.
A clevis 8 is connected to each end of the frame A by means of a removable bolt 9 and a cable 10 is'connected to each clevis, said cables being shown as extending around guide pulleys 11 on the posts 5, and as connected to a turn buckle 12. If desired, the ends ofthe cables 10 may be knotted at 13 so as to be adjustably engaged by hooks 14 at the ends of the turn buckle. With this construction it will be obvious that any slack in the clothes line can be readily taken up guide pulleys 4,'

The end frame B comprises a lower strip 15, and an upper strip 16, with spacing blocks 17 interposed between the ends of the strips. The upper strip 16 may be hingedly connected'at one end, as indicated at 18, and detachably secured at the opposite end by screws 19. The spindles 20 for the pulhave the ends thereof loosely received within recesses frame, so that when the spindles and pulle retained in normalv position, althoug spindles and upper strip 16 is swung upwardly, asI cated by Fig. 4f.
