IMPROVEMENT IN PUMPS.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.128,123, dated June 18,1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP COPE, of OakT field, in the county of Genesee and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my pump. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section of the lower head of the pump-cylinder with valve-seat and valve.
A represents the pump-stock, made of wood or iron, as may be desired, and having the cylinder B inserted in its lower end. Upon the lower end of the cylinder is screwed a wroughtfiron flange, C, which is fastened by bolts a a to a similar ilange, C', screwed onto the pipe D, leather packing e being interposed between the flanges, as shown. The pipe D extends above the flange C for a short distance, and has a cup, E, screwed upon it above the flange, the interior of said cup being ilaring to receive the conical body G of the lower valve. b is the valve attached to said body, and said body is further provided with a bail, d, so that it can readily be lifted out and put in at pleasure. H represents the plunger, constructed in any of the known and usual ways, and connected by a rod, I, with the" handle .I.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The conical cup E, screwed on the upper end of the pipe D above the flan ge C', substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. rPhe combination of the cylinder B, pipe D, flanges C. C', conical cup E, and valve G b, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. 'Ihe combination of the stock A, cylinder B, pipe D, flanges C C', conical cup E, valve G b, plunger H, rod I, and handle J, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony' that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of February, 1872.
. PHILIP COPE. Witnesses:
