ATTORNEYS fifl" To all whomz't ma concern:
Be it known t at' I, Louis Sonnnrr, a citizen of the United States, and a resldent of the cit of'New York, borough of Brooklyn, 'in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Artificial Candle, 'of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved artificial candle or lamp candle, arranged to provide apermanent substitute for the ordinary tallow or stearin candle and one which retains its shape and size, and its light supplying means can be readily replenished.
In order to produce the desired result, use is made of avcasing resembling or simulating a candle and adapted to be filled with kerosene or a similar light furnishing fluid, the casing having a closed top in which a tubular wick screws, a holder holding the wick, the lower portion of the holder 'extending into the said fluid and the top extending beyond the top of the casrng.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in
which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the artificial candle;
Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the.
same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the wick holder; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan View of the artificial candle on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
The casing 10 of the artificial candle or lamp candle is preferably made of metal in the form of a candle and coated with enamel to simulate or resemble an ordinary wax or stearin candle. The casing 10 is provided at the top with a plug.11 secured to the casing and having a concave top 12 and a centralthreaded opening 13 through which kerosome or other light furnishing fluid may be .poured to fill the casing with such fluid.
It is understood that by making the top 12 of the plug 11 concave, the kerosene or similar fluid can be readily poured wlthout danrorar. Canaan.

manner t at its lower portion extends within the casing and its top projects slightly beyond the top of the casing, 10. The collar l? is provided with a head 18 adapted to be seated on the top of the plug 11 to limit the downward movement of the wick holder 15, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2. The lower portion of the'wick holder 15 is provided with apertures or tperforations 18 to permit the fluid containe in the casing 10 to readily saturate the wick 16, the up er end of which projects above the top of the wick holder 15 to permit of lighting the wick and'thus furnishing the deslred light.
It will be noticed that the Wick holder can be readily temporarily removed from the casing 10 for filling the latter with kerosene or other light producing fluid, and the wick holder can be readily replaced and its wick lighted to simulate a candle.
It is further understood that the artificia candle when its wick is lighted represents or simulates an ordinary candle and it burns for a long time without changing its appearance, and undesirable drippings such as are usually experienced by burning candles are entirely avoided. I
The artificial candle is very simple and durable in construction and is not liable to get easily out of order, and its light supplying means can be readily replenished thus providing a permanent substitute for Having thus described my invention, I claim as new. and desire to secure 'by Letters Patent 'As an article of manufacture, an artifi- I cial candle, comprising a casing simulating a candle and having a closed bottom, a plug having a concave upper face and a central threaded aperture, said plug being arranged in the upper end of the casing with its upper edge flush with the end of the casing, whereby the upper end of the casing 1s .made to simulate the concavity of a burning candle and provision made 'for filling the casing with light furnishing fluid without spilling the same, and a tubular perforated wick holder having near its upper end a threaded collar screwing into the threaded opening of the plugand having a head seated on the central portion of the concave face of the plug and serving to limit the casing.
