LOCK.
APPLICATION FILED DEC-22. 1911.

ATTORNEYS ISAAC HAMMER, OF -NEW YORK, N.
LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 22, 1917 Serial No. 208,437.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, ISAAC HAMMER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of theBronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Look, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects'which the present invention has in view are: To prevent tampering. with the lock when actively disposed; to provide a relatively rigid construction; to prevent rattling of the lock when actively disposed; and to strengthen the resistance of the lock.
Drawings.
Description.
As seen in the drawings, the lock has a continuous body casing 8. The casing 8 is preferably constructed from metal which is y preference cast. By thus constructing the casing, a solid striker portion 2 is provided having extended therein parallel sockets 10, which open from one side of the casing. The sockets 10 are traversed by perforations 11. The perforations l1\ are formed through both walls of the sockets 10 and are provided to receive the bolts 12. The bolts 12 are rigidly connected by a sliding guide plate 13 with which is integrally formed a ward late 14, in which one or more wards 15 are fbrmed. The ward plate 1 1 and bolts 12 connected therewith are reeiprocated to pass the bolts through the sockets 10 and perforations 11 in the outer wall thereof, as seen best in Fig. 1 of the'drawings, or to retract the same so that the ends of the bolts 12 are withdrawn from the sockets 10, as shown in Fig. 3. To this end, a key 16 is inserted or maintained in the casing 8, and within the Ward 15. In the drawings, the key 16 is of a permanent t pe and is connected by means of a'shank 1 with a handle 18. The key 16 is so arranged that when the handle '18 is rotated to the limits ofits action, the key 16 presses on one or the other side wall of the ward 15 to shoot or withdraw the bolts 12. At the limit of each of. the thrusts of the key 16, the end thereof rests on one or other of the approximately vertical sections 19 of the wards 15. The shank 17 is mounted in the casin 8 and approximatelyin line with the sectlons 19 of the ward plate 14 so that if the handle 18 is not operated after the bolts 12 have been moved to either of the extreme positions mentioned, the key serves as an abutment to prevent the movement of the Ward plate 14 by other means than that afforded by the key and the handle 18 thereof.
When the bolts 12 are shot or disposed in active service, they extend through holes 20 in the shackles 21. The shackles 21 are integrally formed with The striker plate 22 is angular in form as seen best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and the panel 23 thereof in service is held on thedoor jamb by screws inserted through screw-holes 24. The panel 23, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, is covered by the door 25, when said door isclosed.
As shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, when the lock is actively disposed, the bolts 12 are protected from interference or tam-- Patented Oct. 8, 1918.

poring, by reason of the fact that they are inaccessible from outside the a tool forced between said jalnb on which the striker mounted It is also obvious that the lock or door cannot be forced without shearing the bolts 12, as they are held in the perforations 11 and holes 20 of the striker portion 9 and shackles 21. At the same time, it is equally evident that when the key 16 operated by turning the handle 18 associated are readily and easily withdrawn. It is further evident that the simplicity of construction of the lock permits the parts thereof to be made substantial and strong.
Claims.
1. A look comprising a striker portion having rectangular recesses therein, said recesses opening toward the frame for the door to which said lock is attached, the sides of said striking portion being perforated in lines transverse to said recesses; a striker door 25, or by door and the plate 22 is plate adapted to be structurally attached to,
said frame, said plate having a plurality of therewith, the bolts,
plate to enter said recesses, said shackles having perforations extending therethrough,
,, said perforations being adapted to aline with the recesses in the sides of said striking portion of said look when said lock is closed on aplurality of bolts .slidsaid striking plate; ably mounted in said perforations for extension therethrough; and means for moving said bolts through said perforations forwithdrawing the sametherefrom, said means embodying a rotary device having a thrust member operatively engaging said bolts.
2. A look comprising a striker portion having rectangular recesses therein, said recesses opening toward the frame for the door to which said lock is attached, the sides of said striking-portion being perforated in ines transverse to said recesses; a striker plate adapted to be structurally attached to said frame said plate having a plurality of rectangular shackles extended from said Copies of this patent may be obtained for 'withdravvingthe same therefrom,
five cents each, by addressing the plate to enter said recesses, said shackles having perforations extending therethrough, said perforations being adapted to aline With the recesses in the sides of said striking portion of said look when said lock is closed on said striking plate; a plurality of bolts slidably mounted in said perforations for extension therethrough; and means for moving said bolts through said perforations for said means embodying award plate rigidly attached to said bolts and having a Ward formed therein, and a key rotatively mounted in said lock operable exteriorly thereto, said key being adapted for engagement with said Ward for moving said plate and bolts attached thereto, said key being pivoted adjacent the horizontal plane of the open end of the sides 0; said Ward for forming a stopping member; therefor.
