This invention relates to improven'ients in typewritine,r machines and more pairticularly to stenographic writing nmehiiu-es, and eonsists in certain novel features of construction 'and emnbinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed o utn the claims.

The various key buttons on the key levers are provided with certain letters ofthe alphabet and certain of said key buttons are intended also to represent numerals under certain conditions as hereinafter explained. The type bars with which the keys that may represent numerals are connected are pro-` vided each With two type faces 34, 35, one above the other,-the upper type faces representing certain letters of the alphabet and the lower type faces represcntin numerals. Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

1.` In a stenographic typewriting nntchine, the combination 'with a platen, a plurality of longitudinally movable type bars, and a plurality of pvoted key levers, each having an. arm projecting rearwardly'from its pivotal support, of a plurality of bellcranklei vers, each having one end pivctally connected with a type bar, and the other arm of each bell-crank being hifurcated and in line with the rear end of a key lever arm, the rear end of said key lever arm being mounted loosely in said bifurcated end of the bell-crankarm, and a guide comb in which said connections only per- Abetween the bell-cranks and key lever arms are disposed and their alinelnent malntai-ned.
