'PULLEY-STOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1918.
Application filed. March 12, 1918. Serial No. 222,021.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELBRIDGE R. HOLMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Pulley-Stock, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a pulley stock more particularly designed for use in narrow ware looms. In such looms it is customary to provide a let-,ofi' weight for each separate narrow warp, which weight is suspended from a pulley mounted on a pulley stock and resting upon a slack portion of the warp.
It is the object of my present invention to improve the construction of such pulley stocks, thereby securing increased economy in manufacture and more satisfactory opera tion when in use.
The preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of certam parts of a narrow ware loom and showing my invention in use, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my 1mproved pulley stock.
Referring to Fig. 2, I have shown a pulley 10 rotatably secured by a stud or rivet 11 to a pulley stock formed from a single piece of sheet metal. The pulley stock comprises an upright portion 12 to which the pulley is secured; a reversely bent top portion 13 extending laterally substantially beyond the side edges of the pulley 10; and a guard 14 extending beneath the pulley and having its outer end 15 bent upward outside of the pulley 10 and extending to a point above the lower edge of the pulley. A hook 16 extends below theguard 14 and is formed by partially severing the central portion of the guard and bending the same downward, as clearly shown 1n Fig. 2.
The device is shown in use in Fig. 1, in which a loom frame 20 supports a warp frame 21 on which a plurality of narrow warp beams 22 are rotatably mounted. The warp W from each beam. extends downward around a pulley 10 mounted on one of my improved pulley stocks and then passes around a series of suitable guide pulleys and rolls, as indicated in the drawing.
up the warp and thus raises each pulley and pulley stock with its attached weight 24 until the top 13 of the stock engages the brake 23. Thebrake is thus released, allowing the warp beam to revolve and a certain amount of warp to be let off, lowering the pulley and stock. These parts are again gradually raised and the left-off operation is repeated.
The tension upon the warp may be regulated as desired by increasing or decreasing the weight 24 suspended from the hook 16 of each pulley stock.
This method of operation in narrow ware looms is well-known and forms no part of my invention, which resides in the specific details of construction of the pulley stock, as shown in the drawings.
Attention is called to the advantages obtained by the use of the upwardly extending end portion 15 of the guard 14 which elfectively prevents accidental displacement of the pulley and pulley stock from its warp.
Having thus described my invention, it will be evident that changes and modifications can be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as set forth in the claims, and I do not wish to be otherwise limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim is:
1. A pulley stock comprising an upright portion to which the pulley is attached, a laterally projecting top portion, a guard extending beneath said pulley and upwardly outside of saidpulley to a point above the lower edge thereof, and a hook positioned below said guard.

2. A pulley stock formed of a single piece tion extending upward outside of said pulof sheet metal and comprising an upright ley to a point above the lower edge thereof, portion to Which the pulley is attached, a and a depending hook formed from the 10 reversely'bent top portion projecting subcentral part of said guard.
