Be it known that I, BERNARD' ENGLE, a citizen of the United States, residing inthe borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvenient in Adjustable Forms, of which the` following is the specification. j
V This invention relates to an adjustable form adapted to be used by dressmakers in fitting garments, and theobject thereof is 'the provision of a form in which many of the difficulties heretofore experienced in the work of fitting, are overcome. I am aware that heretofore adjustable forms of one type and another have been employed in fitting garments, but my present invention relates more particularly to the construction o f an improved adjustable form wherein the parts maybe clamped in position to indicate the measurements necessarily used in fitting and 'after these areonce obtained and noted, the
form may be set up independently of the body to be fitted, andthus used in fitting the garment in the absence of the person by j` whoni the garment is to be worn.

Referring `to the drawing, my improved adjustable forni preferably comprises a plurality of adjustable tapes made of thin steel or other equally resilient.1naterial. These tapesarc suitably connected and made to extend both longitudinally and circumferentially ofthe body to be fitted. The forni as hereinbefore stated isinad'e in halves. Each half comprises a front longitudinal tape 10 and a rear longitudinal tape 11.' The' upper ends of the tapes lQand 1,1 are suitably connected to" the opposite endslof the collarA to a hip tape 13. Shoulder tapes 14- are connected at one end to the collar tapes and at the opposite end to arin tapes l5.
I also employ a plurality of circumferential tapes comprising a chest tape 16 and a corresponding back tape connected at their respective ends to the front and back tapes 10 and 11 and the corresponding arm tape 15. There are also bust tapes 17 and 18 connected at their opposite ends to the correspending front and back tapes 10 and 11 and a `waist tape 19, an auxiliary waist tape 20, as well as auxiliary hip tapes 2l and 22 all of which are connected at their respective ends-Lto the front and back tapes 10 and 11.
As clearly indicated in Fig. 2`, these circumferential tapespass through and are adjustable in guide loops indicated at 23 suitably connected to the various longitudinal tapes, allof which latter are preferably connected atjtheir lower ends to the hip tape 1 3 while `some of these longitudinal tapes are connected to the collar tapes and others to the shoulder tapes at their upper ends.
EachA of these tapes comprises an inner ba'n'd 24e, an outer band 25, and an intermediate band 26 which latter is longitudinally and preferably centrally providedA with a slotA 26. The intermediate band 26 is secured at one end to its inner band 24 by rivets or otherwise, and at its other end is 'free to slide upon the outer surface oi' its inner band 24, the intermediate band being formed so as to act as a spring in the adjustment of the parts of the band to position. The loWer end of the outer band 25 overlies the corresponding intermediate band and adjacent its extremity is provided with a T 27 which is suitably connected thereto and which extends through and is movable in the slot 26 in the intermediate band. This structure `is clearly shown in Fig. 8, and by reference to Fig. 4 it will be seen that in order tofinsure an even movement of the parts; that is to keep the parts in position While being adjusted,.the outer band 25 may also be provided With a clamp having overturned ends 28 extendmg over the adjacent edges of the intermediate band 2e.
At its upper end each inner band 24 is provided With brackets 29 in Which there is pivotally mounted a clamp 30 adapted to be turned doWn so as to grip the outer band between the tongue of the clamp and the adjacent portion of the inner band, and on each outer band adjacent the clamp 30 there is a scale indicated at 31, it being understood that when the parts are in the posltion in which they cause the form to assume its smallest shape, the scale Will indicate a minimum dimension on each band and upon the band being adjusted to the fitted position and secured in place by the clamp `30 the edge of the clamp Will indicate on the scale the dimension of the body corresponding to the tape, it being further understood that the tapes may be designated 'from each other in any suitable manner so that the di- ,mensions of eachtape may be recorded and retained after a fitting is made. As hereinvbefore described the longitudinal tapes have been referred to in detail, it being understood however, that thesaid circumferential tapes are made and adjusted in a similar manner.
In suitable positions the front and back longitudinal tapes 10 and 11 may be provided vvith suitable clamps by which the parts of the form may be secured together. As shovvn in Fig. 7 a clasp is illustrated comprising a socket 32 suitably secured to the right hand front longitudinal member 10 and a spring clip 33 secured in a similar position to the left hand front `longitudinal member 10 and adapted toenter and engage the socket 32 so as to secure the halves of the form together, any suitable number of these clamps being employed to adequately connect the halves of the form and securethe 'same in position at the rear as Well as at the front. i
From the foregoing it will be apparent that in adjusting the form on the figure to be fitted the clamps 30 are all loosened and loW for the corresponding increase 1n the measurements indicated thereby. From Figsgland 2 it Will be observed that `in order to maintain-.the inner and outer bands of each tape in position relatively to one an other I may employ suitably placed `bands 34 extending around these parts.-

l. Anadjustable form comprising a plu- Arality, of resilient tapes each consisting of an Ainner band, `an outer band, anintermediate band,means for connecting one end of theinner band to the outer band, and devices for connecting the other end of the outer band to slide in the intermediate band.
2. An adjustable form comprising a. plurality of resilient tapes each consisting of an lnner band, an outer band,-` an intermediate band having a 'slot therein, a T secured to one end of the outer band and passing through andslidable in the slot in the intermediate band, and devices for securing the opposite end of the inner band to the outer band and indicating a measurement thereon. j
3. An adjustable form comprising a plurality of resilient tapes each consisting of aninner band, an outer band, an intermediate` band having a slot therein, a T secured to one end of the outer band and passing through and slidable in the slot in the intermediate band, and a clamp at the opposite end of the inner band adapted tolengage the adjacentfportion of the outer band and to .to the neck and arm tapes, the said front and back longitudinaltapes being connected `at their upper ends to the said neck and shoulder tapes, a plurality of' transverse tapes adjustable circumferentially in predetermined longitudinal tapes, each tape including an inner' band, an outer band, an
intermediate band, means for connecting one end of the inner band to the outer band,
' and 'devices for connecting the other `end of the outer band to slide in the intermediate band. i
5. An adjustable'form comprising longitudinal tapes, a neck tape, arm tapes, shoulder tapes extending between and connected to the neckfand arm tapes, the said front and back longitudinal tapes being connected at their upper ends to the said neck and including,` an inner band, an outer band, an intermediate band, means for adjustably securing one end of the inner band to the outer band and simultaneously indicating a measurement thereon, and devices for con- 10 necting the opposite end of the outer band to slide in the intermediate band.
