Description
F. KUHN & J. A. HAND.
PORTABLE COOK STOVE.
APPLICATION man APR.6. 1918.
1 ,27 9 ,364. Patented Sept. 17, 1918..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK KUHN AND JAY A. HAND, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN. ASSIGNORS TO AMERICAN ELECTRICAL HEATER COMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
PORTABLE COOK-STOVE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, FRANK KUHN and JAY A. HAND, both citizens of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Portable Cook-Stoves, of whlch the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to electric cooking stoves and has reference to various novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stove;
Fig. 2 is a view of the same in side elevation, partly in section;
Fig. 3 is a bottom view thereof.
In these views 1 designates an open rectangular frame to which are secured top and bottom plates2 and 3 respectively forming a casing within which is-disposed a heatlng unit at, the top portion of which pro ects through a circular orifice in the member 2 and is thereby held against lateral displacement. While the specific features of this unit are not part of the present invention, it is preferred to form the unit with a series of annular or spiral grooves, as shown, wherein the heating resistor is located. -At the corners of the rectangular frame 1 legs 5 are engaged therewith to support the stove in a spaced relation to a table or floor.
A controlling switch 6 is mounted beneath the front portion of the stove, being carried by brackets 7 secured to the under face of the member 3, the handle member of said switch being disposed within a dished indicator plate 8 which is carried by the plate 9 depending from the front of the frame 1. From said' switch conductors are extended rearwardly to an insulatory block 10 projecting through the center portion of the member 3, said conductors passing through said block into the stove. Adjacent said block at the rear thereof there is mount- Patented Sept. 17, 1918.
Application filed April 6, 1918. Serial No. 226,988.
ed an insulatory member 10 carrying terminals 11 to which are connected lead wires 12 for supplying current to the resistor. The wires leading from the terminals 11 to the switch and from said switch to the block 10 are incased by an arch shaped sheet-metal mem ber 13, preferably perforated to permit the ready escape of'heated air from the interior of said housing. The extremities of the casing 13 respectively engage the switch and the member 1O when said casing is in place. The edges of the casing are flanged as indicated at 14, said flanges being adapted to pass under tongues 15 stamped out of the member 3 and being cut away as indicated at 16 to interlock with said tongues and retain the casing in place.
The above described stove may be constructed of a size to assure ready portability and yet-furnish the full amount of heat necessary to the use of ordinary cooking utensils. The detachable connection of the member 13 with the stove bottom allows ready access to the electrical connections.
What we claim as our invention is:-
l. A cooking stove, comprising a frame, spaced top and bottom members secured to said frame and forming a casing, the top member being orificed, a heating unit located within said casing and projecting through said orifice, a switch secured to said casing therebeneath, an insulatory mounting secured to the casing in spaced relation to said switch, conductors extending between said switch and mounting, conductors extending into the casing from 'said switch, tongues depending from the casing, and a housing flanged to engage said tongues.
2. A cooking stove, comprising a heating unit, a mounting for said unit, a switch secured to said mounting therebeneath, an insulatory member secured to the mounting in spaced relation to said switch, conductors extending between said memberand switch and extending into the casing from the switch, tongues depending from the casing, and a housing flanged to engage said tongues inclosing said conductors.
3. A cooking stove, comprising a heating unit, a mounting for said unit, a switch secured to said mounting therebeneath, an insulatory member secured to the mounting 5 in spaced relation to said switch, conductors extending between said switch and insulatory member and into the mounting from said switch, and a housing for said conductors detachably engaged with said mounting. 10
In testimony whereof we afiix our signacures.
' FRANK KUHN.
JAY A. HAND.
