To all'whom-it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHESTER A. BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Blue Grass, in 'the' county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Portable Feed-Mixing; Apparatus, of which the-following: is a speci fication;
The present invention relates generally to a portable feed mixing apparatus'for stock.
In carrying out my invention it is my purpose to arrange upon a suitable truck; a tank or chamber having revoluble blades arranged therein and operative from the I ex terior of the said tank whereby'to eflectively mixthe feed for stock deposited in the said tank, and to provide means whereby a desired quantity of the said contents may be fed from the tank at desired intervals;
It is my purpose to produce in combina- 'tion with a wheeled device for mixing the feed of swine, a discharge or outlet pipe of anovel construction and arrangement- Whereby the'same, when turned toone position will prevent the discharge of the feed and when turned to-- another position will permit of the outflow of the feed from the:
tank device;
It is" a further object of the invention to produce a device of this character which shall be of a comparatively simple construction but stronglybuilt so as to withstand rough usage, while at the same time, the same can be manufactured and marketed at a nominal price and which shall be thoroughly efficient for the purpose for which it is devised.
With the above and other objects in view the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

In the construction of the portable mixing apparatus to which my improvement is applied" I have illustrated a running gear preferably constructed of metal, the front and rear wheels 3 and 41 respectively being jour naled: on axles 1 and Q'respectivelythat are secured to substantially U-shaped' yokes 5- and 6 respectively. The yokcs support a skeleton frame including corner members 15 and longitudinal connecting members 16. The: skeleton frame is arrangedat an inclination, .and a fifth wheel 10 is arranged between the yoke-5 and the skeleton frame, a pivot 11 passing through the disks comprising the fifth wheel. The axles may'beconnect'ed by a reach bar 7 which is pivotally secured as at 8 to the front axle 1 and on the front axle 1 isa hound 12 carrying a pole 13L 1311 the showing of the drawings the framesupports a trough 19 having an open top normally" closed by a suitable door, and
within the trough is arranged a series of mixing blades" having the shaft therefor journaled in suitable bearings and projecting through one of the ends of the trough. The end' of the shaft, which isindicated by the numeral -45 may' have secured thereto a toothed wheel 52 that is engaged. by a pinion 54" secured on a shaft 51-, and to theshaft 51- is' keyed or otherwise connected the operatinghand-le 55'. The toothed wheels andlshafts tl'ierefor may include a suitable casing 50.
The rear face or plate of the tank or trough at the lower edge thereof, and in a line with the central portion of the rounded bottom of the said trough is provided with an outlet pipe 30, which is arranged at the same inclination as that of the said trough and which has its outer end supported by an angularly arranged strap 31 that is secured to the referred to rear plate of the trough. To the end of the pipe 30 is connected, for rotatable movement on the said pipe, an elbow pipe 32, a suitable packing being arranged between the joint of the said elbow and the end of the said outlet pipe to insure a water tight connection between these elements, and connected with the elbow is a discharge pipe or spout 33. The numeral 34 designates a suitable clip that is secured around the discharge pipe or spout 33, and this clip is formed with an inwardly extending stud 35 that has its outer end capped or enlarged, as at 36, and which stud is adapted to receive a substantially U-shaped member or bail 37 which is secured to an angular element 38 upon one end of a longitudinally arranged shaft 39. The shaft 39 is journaled in suitable bearing openings provided in bracket members 40 that may be formed by bending the ends of the horizontal bars of the frame at the rear of the said frame and by extending the lower connecting bar at the front of the frame, and the shaft is prevented from longitudinal movement through the medium of suitable collars arranged thereon to the opposite sides of the rear bracket 40. The outer end of the shaft 39 has secured thereto the angular end 40 of a lever 42,the said lever being of a length to project above the top of the trough, and the numeral 43 designates a catch, in the nature of a substantially U-shaped bail which is hingedly secured to the top plate of the trough and which is adapted to be swung over the cover plate 21 to engage with the opposite edges of the lever 42 to hold the said lever in a vertical position, and likewise to retain the discharge pipe or spout 33 in an upwardly disposedvertical position to prevent the outflow of the contents of the trough therethrough. It will be apparent that when. the lever is released from the catch 43 and swung outwardly of the device a that the discharge pipe or spout 33 may be terial from the tank or trough 19 can thusswung with the elbow 32 at a desired angle with respect to the tank, whereby to permitv of the free outflow of the feeding material from the inclined tank.
The arrangement of the outlet means just described is highly desirable in a construction v01: this class inasmuch as the spout or pipe 33 may be properly directed to the feeding trou h for the swine so that the mabe delivered without necessitating the same being conveyed therefrom to pail-s or buckets Copies off this patent may be'obtainedfor as would be necessary if an ordinary valved outlet was provided.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In an outlet pipe for mixing troughs, a swiveled discharge spout for the outlet pipe, a lug upon said spout, a yoke member engaging with the lug,.a shaft arranged longitudinally of the frame and journaled in bearings upon the said frame and connected to the said yoke, an angular-operating handle for the shaft, and a catch member upon the trough adapted to engagevwith the handle to retain the same in one position and the outlet spout in an upward vertical position with respect to the trough.
2. In an outlet pipe for mixing troughs, a
discharge tube having an elbow swiveled to the outlet pipe, a stud on said spout, .a yoke engaging the stud, alongitudinally arranged shaft connected with the oke, .an angular handle secured to the shaft, and a swinging substantially U-shaped catch member adapted to engage with the opposite edges of the handle to retain the same in a position to hold the outlet spout in an upward vertical.
