COMBINATION LUMP-CRUSHER, HARROVI, AND ROLLER.-
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1918.
Application filed March 20, 1918. Serial No. 223,581.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that WILLIAM J. UHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Caro, in the county of Tuscola and State of Michigan, has invented certain new and us ful Improvements in Combination Lump- Crushers, Harrows, and Rollers; and he does hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inventlon, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparatus for crushing, harrowing and rolling ground, and conslsts of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the inven' tion.
Fig, 2 is a side elevation, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates the frame of the apparatus, there being one or more of similar construction connected together by any suitable means, and pivotally mounted in the opposite sides of each frame are the rock shafts B having spring harrow teeth C. Other rock shafts designated by letter D are also journaled in the frames near its ends and have teeth E projecting therefrom. Arms H project from the several rock shafts and are pivotally connected at H to the bar K. A lever L is pivotally connected at L to one side of the frame and through the medium of the pin 0 with said bar K and affords means for imparting a longitudinal movement to the bar to cause the several shafts to rock together. Arms Q are pivotally mounted upon the brackets Q, upon the frame and each arm has journaled in its end the spindle end of a lump or earth cr usher N of cylindrical form, which in the present instance is shown corrugated but may have any kind of surface thereon. Plates P are fastened to the opposite sides of the frame and each plate has an ofiset 1 near its rear end, and at the lower por tion of the rear end is a projection P The rear end of said arm is bent to form a hook S adapted to engage over the rear marginal end of the plate and serves as a means for guiding the arm as it is raised and lowered. A rock shaft T is journaled in said plates and is provided with integral fingers T which are adapted, When thrown downward, to hold the arms from swinging upward, and serve to hold down the earth crushing roller. One end of the shaft T has a crank handle T and T is a member fastened to the bar K and adapted as the latter is moved forward to contact with said crank handle and hold the lugs T in fixed positions against the upper edges of said arms to prevent the latter from swinging upward.
Plates W, similar to the plates before referred to, are fastened to opposite sides of the frame near the rear ends thereof and each plate WV has a contracted rearwardly extending portion W near its lower edge. Apms X are pivotally mounted upon the bracket X upon the frame, and in said arms X are journaledthe spindle arms of the roller Y. The rear ends of the arms X are bent to form hooks X which engage over the rear edges of the plates W and serve to guide the arms X as the latter are raised and lowered. A shaft R is journaled in the plates W and is provided with integral finger R bent against the upper edges of the arms X. The shaft R is provided with a crank handle R which is in the path of the lug B when the bar K carrying the same is moved in one direction and serve to hold the roller Y down, the means for holding the rollers being operated by the lever which is pivoted to the harrow of the apparatus and to said bar K,
In operation, when it is desired to permit the tWo rollers to be raised and lowered the lever is swung rearward causing the fingers upon the two rock shafts to be elevated. When it is desired to hold both of the rollers the lever is thrown forward causing the lug upon the rock shaft to engage the upper edges of the arms and hold the same rigidly A suitable d 'av-bar J is connected to the forward end of the frame and to which power may be applied.
lVhat I claim to be new is:
1. A combination clod crusher, harrow and roller comprising a frame, rock shafts with harrow teeth thereon mounted in the frame, a clod crusher, and swinging arms mounted upon the frame and in which the clod crusher is journaled, a rock shaft having projections thereon adapted to engage said arms to prevent the latter being raised, and means actuated by the lever for holding the rock shafts with projections thereon against said arms.
2. A combination clod crusher, harrow and roller comprising a frame, rock shafts with harrow teeth thereon mounted in the frame, arms pivotally mounted upon the frame, means for guiding the arms, rollers journaled in said arms, rock shafts having lugs adapted to engage said arms to prevent the same being raised, and a lever actuated mechanism for preventing the lug carrying shafts from rocking.
3. A combination clod crusher, harrow andv roller, comprising a frame, rock shafts mounted therein and provided with harrow teeth, arms pivotally mounted upon the frame, means for guiding the arms, rollers ournaled in the arms, rock shafts journaled in the frame and having lugs adapted to engage said arms to prevent the latter from being raised, each rock shaft having a crank arm, a vertically movable horizontally disposed bar, a lever pivoted to the frame and to said bar, lugs upon said bar adapted to be engaged by said crank arms as the bar is moved longitudinally in one direction, and
' said, hooks are adapted" to move and by which the arms are guided, and means for limiting the downward movements of the arms,
5. In combination with a clod crusher, harrow and roller, comprising a frame, rock shafts journaled in the frame and having harrow teeth, pivotal arms mounted upon the frame, rollers carried by said arms, a 7
rock shaft journaled in the frame and having lugs engaging said arms to prevent the latter being raised, lever actuated mecha nism for holding said shafts from rocking, the ends of said arms provided with hooks, plates upon the frame and over which plates said hooks are adapted to move and by which the arms are guided, said plateshaving each an extension against which the hooked portions of the arms are adapted to. contact to limit the downward movements of said arms.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
