My invention relates to mechanical' movements particularly 'adaptable for obtaining a `reciprocating motion. An object of the inventionis to obtain a simpleand inexpen ed eccentrically sive movement which is particularly adapted to jacks.

In' the modified structure shown in l? ig. l the stud 14 on which the pinion 11 bears extends through a slot 9 `provided in the housing 6 of the jack. This stud 14C is se cured to lazy tongs 24 disposed withinthe housing below the post 5 and to which the lupper end of the tongs is connected by meansof a stud 8', also bearing in the slots v9', the lower end of the tongs being secured 'which it is connected, therebythe weight supported by the post is not only supported by the stud 8 but also by the pin 14 and shaft 13 to which the tongs are connected.
In Fig. 5 a modified form of transmission is 's liown, in which the pin 19 is carried by a gear 22 which is revoluble'on the sha-ft 13. The casing 6' has an additional stud shaft23 onv which the hand wheel '20"is mounted and which carries a pinion 2l constrained to revolve therewith and in mesh with the gear 22. This arrangement permits 'a larger capacity of the jack.
In the modification disclosed in Figs. 6
and 7 .the casing 26 'is separate from the base 27. The eccent'rigr, gears and the transmission are mountedon al casing 26. The -lower end of the lazy tongs 24 1s anchored to an extension of the base which enters the-` housing'. The upper end of the lazy tongs is connected to the post through tbe medium f the stud 8, and the central part of ,the l zy tongs is anchored to the `shaft 13, the tud 114: being connected to the lazy tongs. The operation of the jack displa-ces the stud 8 which entrains the lazy tongs; and since there are also tongs at both-sides of its anchoring point, not only the post4 will move out of the casing 26 but also the 'casing will move oli' the base 27. Y
I claim:
l. In a mechanical movement, a member .mounted to 'revolve eccentrically',
to the second mentioned mounted to reciprocate, a ,gear mounted -Iecf centrically on said member, a 'second gear 'l idler meshing with said gears.
2. In a mechanical movement, a 'casipgy a member guided by said casing and monted to reciprocate therein, a gear mounted eceentrically on said member, a second gear mounted eccentrically on sidcasing, means for revolving said second gear on'itseccentric axis, an idler meshing said gears, and means connectingthe centers of said gears. 3. In a mechanical movement, a casing, a member slidahly mounted in said casinga I'- `gear mounted eccentrically on said mem a second 'gear mounted eccentrically onthe casing, means for revolving said second gear, means connecting the centers of the two gears, and an idler carried by said means in mesh with said gears.
4. In a mechanical movement, a casing, a member slidably mounted in-said casing, ah gea-r mounted eccentrically on said member, a. second gearmounted eccentrically on the casing, means for revolving said second gear, a link connecting the centers of the two gears, and anV idler carried by said link and interposed between said cams.
5. In a mechanical movement,a casing,'a member slidably mounted in said casing, a gear mounted eccentrically on said mem er, a second gear mounted eccentrically on the casing, means for revolving said gear, a transmission interposed between said means and said second gear, .a link connecting the centers Qf the two gears, and an idler carried by said link in mesh with said gears.

In a jack, a casing, a post slidably mounted therein, a shaft revolublyl mounted in the casing, a ,gea-r mounted .'eccentrically on the shaft, a second gea-r mounted to reand an volve and slide on the casing, an idler interposed between the gears, alink connecting the centers of the eccentric gears, said idler being carried-by the link, means for imparting lmotion to the shaft, and lazy tongs anchored to said shaftand connected ear and idler.
