Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State -of New York, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Windows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of-the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the Another object of this invention is to' provide a window of this character, which is provided with horizontally swinging and transversely sliding sashes, and which sashes have shutters that are also adapted to swing horizontally and to be slid trans versely through said sashes so as not to project into the room beyond the sill of the window frame.

These sashes 5 when disposed across and within the window frame entirely fill the the'slots and plates on sameand they may be secured togetherby any desired type of fastening means at their contacting edges.

The sashes 5 are so mounted within the frame 1 that they are adapted to swing horizontally, and slide transversely across the same, and said sashes are of such a width that when they are slid transversely approximately half their length across the frame, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, they will not project from the sill into the room and hence will-be out of the way. The pivotal and slidable connections between the sashes and the frame comprise two connecting members 7 for each sash which are disposed between the top of the sashes adjacent their outer edge and the lower edge of the upper portion 2 of the frame, and the bottom of the sashes also adjacent their outer edges and the top of the sill or bottom portion 3 of the frame. These connections 7 are substantially. similar at all four points and for the sake of brevity I will specifically describe only one of the same.

The connecting member 7 comprises a vertical pivot pin 8 that has its outer extremity 9 projecting beyond the edge of the portion of the frame to which it is secured, and the same is adaptedto be disposed in a longitudinally extending slot 10 in the ad jacent edge ofthe sash 5. This slot 10 eX- tendsfrom the outer edge of the sash to a point approximately midway between its.

From the above specific description of the connections 7 between the sashes and the frame, it will be obvious that when the parts of this frame are assembled as shown-in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the projecting extremities 9 ofthe pivots 8 will be disposed within the slots 10 in the sashes, and at a point adjacent the. outer edges or ends of said sashes.

When it is desired to open the sashes for any purpose, they may be swung horizontally,

owing to the fact that the samewill swing easily on the vertical pivots 8. When swung outwardly to theposition shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be obvious that one of the edges of such sashes will project past the sill of the window frame out into the room. To remove this for the same, and owing to the fact that.

the vertical pivot 8 will form a guide, these sashes may be pushed straight through the frame to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The transverse sliding movement of the sashes through the frame islimited owing to the fact that the slots 10 extend approximately onlyhalf the width of the sashes, thereby limiting their I movement.-

The sashes 5 are also provided with protective blinds or shutters 15 which are of substantially rectangular shape and are slightly larger than the glass within said sashes so'that when in position they will form a cover for the same. 15 are connected with the sashes '5, at the inner sides of the same and are adapted to swing horizontally with respect to the same, and the sashes 5 are provided with vertical slots 16 therein adjacent one of their edges,

and disposed contiguous to one of the edges of the shutters 15 so that the shutters are also adapted to slide transversely through the "slots in said sashes, for approximately half their length so that they also will not project into the room whenswung into open position. The connections between the sashes 5'and the shutters 15' are designated by the numeral 17 and they are disposed on the inner sides of said sashes adjacent one of their edges and connect the same with. the upper and lower edges of said shutters. These connections 17 are substantially alike in general outline and are'four in number and for the sake of'brevity I will specifically describe only one of them.

The connection 17 comprises aright angular bracket 18 having one of its arms 19 se cured by a screw 20 adjacent the edge of the sash in vertical alinement and contiguous to one-end of the slot 16. The other arm 21 of the bracket projects outwardly from the sash at right angles. to the same and is dis posed across the bottom of the slot. From the above specific description of the connection 17 between the shutters and sashes, it will be obvious that'owing to the fact that two of these conneetionsare employed at the top. and bottom of each of the shutters and adjacent one of the edges, said shutters-are adapted to swing horizontally on the vertical pivots 22 between which they are mounted, from the closed position shown in Fig.1 of the drawings outwardly. hen swung outwardly, it will 'be' obvious that their outerends will project beyond the sill 3 but when in this position they will be disposed in a single plane with the slot 16 through the sash 5, so that upon pushing the shutters transversely through the framethe same will be projected through the slot 16 by their projecting ends will be moved'past the sill 3 of the frame; The sliding move-- ment of the shutters will be limited owing to the fact that the slot'26 limits thetransverse movement of the same, owing to the fact that it only extends across half of-their width. VVhenmoved transversely, the rollers 25 will slide upon the metal strips 27 which will form a trackfor the same and allow the'shutters to slide easily through the slots 16 in the sashes. 3

From the foregoing description of and construction and operation of my new improved window, it will be obvious thatI have provided a simple and eflieientform of horizontally swinging sash, which is provided with a shutter and which parts are adapted when swung to open position, not to project beyond the sill and into the room. When the sash is swung open the same may be easily moved across the frame so that it will not be i project intothe room and be in the Way such as is'an ordinary objection to horizone tal swinging sashes and shutters of this character.

I claim:

A deviceof the class described comprising-a' frame, closure for said frame, vertieal pivot pinsprojecting from the top and bottom of said frame adjacent its corners,- horizontal rollers on opposite sides of said pivot pins, and bearing pins carrying said rollers and extending laterally from said pivot pins in the plane of the closed position of the closure, said closure having longitudinal tracks at, its upper and lower edges into which the free ends of said pivot pins project, said pivot pins allowing said closure to swing at right angles to the frame, whereby it may slide transversely therethrough, said 10 rollers engaging the edges of saidolosure GIUSEPPE SINDONI.
