wnile a tubular extension "21 of the said casting acconnnodates the usual firing mechanism, not shown, and adapted to be tripped by the trigger positioned.zuljacent-the stock 11 and having a finger guard 23. A hooked lug '2 ou'twardl projects from the blade 13 adjacent its rear end 25 adapted for reception within an inwardly opening slot 26 in the plate 17 when the cylinder 16 and screw 18 are removed.
The barrel 12 fits within a side groove 2? of the blade 13 and beneath a top ledge 28 of the blade. lVith the blade 13 mounted upon the pistol 10 in this manner and with the cylinder 16 and screw 18 in their proper positions, the said cylinder will be aocom niodated for turning within a. recess 2 in the blade end A cross-head or spring lamh 30 is provided at the rear end of the ledge 28 adapted for locking reception between upstanding cars 31 upon the casting: H in substantially the usual manner when the device is closed.
It will be seen that, when the device is assembled and arranged as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, the stools 11 may be grasped for operating thetrigger in firing the pistol 10 while the latch 30 may he released at will for pivotally shifting the barrel 12 upon i hinge 15 for arranging the cylimler ll) its open arrangement for the pn pose of reloading the same The barrel is then swung with the cylinder to its closed position and the latch 30 in looking engagement with the ears 3i. 7
Suiiieient clearance is provided by the arrangement of the groove Li" and the posi tion of the blade 13 upon the barrel to provide clearance for the bullets when fired from the pistol 10. -When it, is desired to use the device as a sword, the tubular casing or hilt 21 may be grasped by the hand for wielding the blade 13 and at which times the member 20 serves as a guard for the hand of the soldier.
arranged within said slot when the device is assembled and a retaining latch at the inner end of said ledge adapted for looking engagement with the pistol casting \i'hen the barrel member is arranged in its closed position. f
2. In combination with. a pistol having a casting and a hilt and-stock member positioned in angular arrangement at one end of the casting, a barrel for the pistol having a slotted plate hinged upon the forward end of the casting, a. cartridge cylinder removably carried by the plate in closing arrangement with the slot thereof, a blade having a side groove and a top ledge adapted for mounting upon the said barrel and having a recess adapted for accommodating the cartrid ge cylinder, a projecting hooked lug upon the blade arranged through the slot of said plate and a spring-pressed latch carried by the rear endof the ledge adapted for engaging the casting of the pistol when the device is in its closed operative arrangement.
