Description
, HENRY H LAW. Improvement in Shuttle-Binder Actu'a'ting Mechanisms.
N0-127J76, Patentedluneflfln.
AM. FNWUTIIOGXAP/IIQ 00. M Y (Oman/ifs PROCESS) UNITED STAT PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTLE-BINDER-ACTUATING MECHANISMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,776, dated June 11, 1872.
Specification describing a new andIm proved Shuttle-Binder, invented by HENRY H. LAW, of Gloucester, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey.
My invention consists of a spring-presser on one of the lathe-swords, and an arm on one of the rods connecting the lathe with the crankshaft, so arranged that when the cranks are down and the shuttle is in abox the said arm will act on the presser, which will thereby act on an arm of the protecting-rod and cause arms thereon to bear on the shuttle bindinglevers in the sides of the boxes, and confine the shuttle until the cranks rise and release the said presser. The arms of the protectingrod are then forced away from the shuttleboxes to relieve the shuttle by other springs acting on the said protecting-rod.
Figure l is a front elevation of the lathe of a loom and part of the swords. Fig. 2 is atop view of the same, also the rods connecting the lathe with the cranks; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line a: a: of Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A represents the lathe-beam; B, the shuttleboxes; O,the shuttle binding-levers; D,the protecting-rod; E, the rods connecting the lathe with the crank-shaft; and F, the swords. The shuttle bindinglvers are pivoted in the sides of the boxes in the ordinary way, and the rod D has arms G acting on them as in other looms. For actuating the said rod I propose to have an arm, H, projecting downward from one of the rods E, in front of and near one of the swords, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, to come in contact with a pusher,I,fixedinahole through the sword, so as to project far enough at the rear to be so acted on, and projecting from the front side, and carrying a spring, J, in a socket in its end, which spring is connected to the arm K of the rod D, so as to press said arm outward by a yielding pressure, andthereby force the upper arms G against the levers 0. This operation takes pl acewhen the cranks are moving down, which is at the same time that the shuttle is driven into one of the boxes, and it is retained thereby until the cranks rise enough to carry the arm H away from the pusher so that it releases the arm K and rod D, which is then turned by a spring, L, which. throws the arms G back from the levers G. This takes place just previous to the time of throwing the shuttle, which is done just after the cranks rise and the arm H is releasedfrom the push-pin.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the protector-rod D and the arms G and K, of a spring-pusher on the lathe sword, andan arm, H, on the connecting-rod E, all constructed and operating substantially as specified.
