CHARLES CASPER.
Improvement in Caster-Bottles.
N0. 127,740. PatentedJune/l1f1872.
Wbvpsss f/zarles (as/w) 1H4 PHOTO 'UTI/OERIPHM' m M )C KOSHER/V53 P3 0555) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES CASPER,-OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE MERIDEN SILVER-PLATE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CASTER-BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,740, dated-June l1, 1872.v
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES CASPER, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Table-Casters; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing'co'nstitutes part of this specification, and represents, in
Figure 1, a side view of the bottle; and in Fig. 2, a vertical central section of the bottom of the bottle, enlarged.
This invention relates to an improvement in caster-bottles; the object being to protect the lower edge of the bottle, or to permanently secure it to the caster-frame. To this end my invention consists in forming a screw-thread upon the lower end of the bottle, and fitting thereto a metallic ring, which said ring may be made fast to the caster-frame so as to hold the bottle firmly on the frame, or, fitted to the bottle independent of the frame, will protect the lower edge as well as serve as an ornament, and is especially adapted to a pickle caster-bottle, which is here used as an illustration.
A is the bottle, of any desired form, and usually made from glass or similar material. At the lower end a thread, a, is formed, and
onto this a metallic ring, b, is fitted, as seen in Fig. 2.
In pickle-casters it is not often desirable to remove the bottle from the frame; but to secure the bottle the frame is constructed to extend up around the sides of the bottle. In this construction the ring I) may be fitted and made fast or formed upon the bed-plate of the caster, so that when the bottle is screwed therein it will be firmly fixed, so as not to be accidentally removed while moving the caster, thus dispensing with that portion of the frame which is now required to support the bottle.
In those casters in which it is desired to remove the bottle such removal and return to the caster creates a great liability to chip or break the lower edge of the bottle. In this class of bottles the same construction is employed, but the ring is retained upon the bottle by means of the screw-thread or its equivalent.
I claim as my invention-- A caster-bottle threaded at its lower edge to receive the metallic ring I), as a means of securing or protecting the bottle, substantially as set forth.
CHAS. CASPER.
