Description

Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
SENECA JONES, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN BEDST EAD-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,694, dated June 11, 1872 antedated May 23, 1872.
SPECIFICATION. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SENECA JONES, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improved Bedstead- Fastening; and I do hereby declare the fol.- lowing description and accompanying drawing are sufiicient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvement without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to a new and valuable improvement in the ordinary fastening for securing the side rails of a bedstead to the corner posts; and it consists in casting upon the extremity of the plate which is fastened to the side rail a projection, which can be countersunk into the rail so as to prevent the plate from shifting from its proper position, and thus disarran gin g the entire fastening.
In order to more fully illustrate and describe my improvement, reference-is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view with a section of the bed-rail. Fig. 2-is a transverse section of side rail with plate attached.
A represents the casting, which is to be secured vertically upon the corner posts of a bedstead, and is provided with dovetail or other recesses b in it. C is the plate having the projections or heads d, which is fastened to the side rail Gin the-proper position to allow the projection d to fit into the recesses 12 in order to fasten the two together.
In the ordinary fastening the plate 0 is simply secured upon the side of the bed-rails by means of screws, and is liable to become loose after awhile, so as to disarrange the entire fastening, besides its liability of being wrenched from the rail, and thus dropping the bed upon the floor. To avoid this 1 cast the plate 0 with a projection, e, on its under side, and near the extremity opposite the fastening.
In the side rail G, at the proper place, I countersink or make arecess, f, into which the projection 6 will fit so as to allow the remainder of the plate to lie flush against the rail, as shown. The plate is then secured by screws, one of which may, if desired, pass through the projection into the rail beneath. By this means the plate is'fixed firmly in place, so that it cannot be moved from its position without first removing the screws, avoiding marrin g the rail by the frequent tightening or shifting of the plate necessary to secure a better hold for the screws, and insuring a firm fastening at a comparatively insignificant cost.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The plate 0 having the projection e and hooks d,.in combination with the rail G with its corresponding recess f, substantially as and for the purpose above described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
