{BATTING-SHUTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Be it known that I, Acorn L. Hansen, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tat-ting-Shuttles, of which the following is a speci cation.
My invention relates to tatting shuttles and contemplates improved construction and arrangement.
Tatting shuttles are usually of elliptical shuttle frame form, the
lou gitudin ally elliptical comprising two bowed frames which are held together at their ends, and
a bobbin is disposed receiving thread.
usually with its axis plate axes, and therefore necessary,
In prior bobbin is arranged between perpendicular a special shape of bobbin is and usually no proviwithin the frame for structures the the frame to the sion is made for mounting such bobbins on a machine for rapid winding.
The main ob ect of my invention is to provide improved bobbin supporting mech anism within the shuttle frame for supporting a bobbin with wise of the frame or may be sufiiciently received ordinary sewing bobbins,
its axis running lengthparallel tudinal axes of the plates.
elongated to detachably with the longi- Such supports machine shuttle the advantage of this beingthat such bobbins will fit any sewing machine to be easily and rapidly re-wound.
is clearly My improved construction shown on the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a plan view top plate removed,
with part of the Fig. 2 is a side elevational view, Fig. 3 is a sectional view on plane 3-3,
Fig. 2, and
Fig. l is a sectional Fi g. 2. The shuttle frame is view on plane 4-4:,
of the ordinary shape and comprises similar top and bottom spherical plates 5 longitudinally and secured ends as by means of being preferably of the shuttle frame is frame 8 of sheet spring limbs 9 and 10 extending longitudinal axis of the sp sheet metal.

receiving between them a bobbin 11 with its axis parallel with the frame longitudinal axis. The frame 8 may be secured in any manner. As shown, ears 12 and 13 extend laterally from the central part of the yoke of the frame 8 and are respectively secured to the inner faces of the plates 5 and Gas by soldering. Such central support of the frame 8 allows considerable spring play of the ends of the frame for the insertion and removalcf bobbins. The bobbin 1 have shown is the same as that used in nearly every sewing machine shuttle and such bobbins can therefore very readily be rewound on any sewing machine. For receiving the pivot points 1% and 15 at the ends of the bobbin the limbs 9 and 10 have the pivot sockets 16 and 17 deflected therein and to facilitate insertion of the bobbin ends in these sockets guide grooves 18 and 19 to these sockets are provided in the inner faces of the limbs. A wound bobbin can thus be readily slipped between the limbs 9 and 10 and into pivotal engagement with the pivot sockets. To remove the bobbin it is ncessary only to spread the limbs 9 and 10 slightly apart and the bobbin will drop out.
I do not of course desire to be limited to the exact details of construction and arrangement shown as changes and modifications may no doubt be made which would still come within the scope of the invention.
I claim as follows:
In a tatting shuttle, the combination with a shuttle frame comprising two elliptical plates-secured together at their ends and spaced apart intermediate the ends, of a sheet metal bobbin holder comprising a U- shape body part having its limbs secured -to the respective shuttle frame plates and Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
