certain new and useful Improvement-s in Boiler-Stands, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
The present invention is directed to stands for supporting kitchen-range boilers which, as well understood in the art, are built in two prevailing sizes, namely twelve inches and fourteen inches in diameter respectively. In the stands as usually constructed it is always the outer face of the peripheral wall of the boiler that is engaged by the adjustable finger or lug with which the stand is provided to hold the boiler against lateral displacement when once deposited on the Stand or on the bracket arms which enter into the construction of the stand. One of the objects of my improvement is to provide a stand in which the element of adjustment and the loss of time consumed in the adjustment of the boiler-engaging finger or lug is eliminated. In lieu of the adjustable finger aforesaid-I provide a stationary or fixed lug so positioned as to engage the smaller sized boiler from the outside of the peripheral wall of the boiler, the walls of the larger sized boiler passing outside the .lugs and permitting the raised bottom of the boiler to rest directly on the lugs. A further object of my invention isto provide a stand composed of a plurality of sections (preferably three so as to form a tripod) which may be assembled and held together without the use of bolts, screws,
or other fastening means, thereby reducing the time and labor consumed in the assembling of the sections to a minimum, and cheapening the cost of the stand. The advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawing in which v Figure 1 represents an elevation of my improved boiler-stand with boiler resting thereon, the boiler being partly broken away; Fig. 2 is a top plan of the stand; Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation of the upper terminal of one of the supporting arms of the stand, showing the same applied to two sides of boiler, the latter being shown in section; Fig. 4 is enlarged horizontal section on the line 4.l of Fig. 1; Fig. 5
is an enlarged outer elevation of the lower half of one of the boiler sections; and Fig. 6 1s a View at right angles to Fig. 5 looking to the left on said figure, that is to say looking toward the inner edge of said section.
Referring to the drawings, S, represents a tripod boiler-stand on which is supported the boiler B aswell understood in the art. In thls type of boiler the bottom I) is provided with an outer depending flange a which is rivited to the bottom of the peripheral walls w of the boiler (Fig. 3) this arrangement serving to raise the bottom b above the plane of the bottom edge of the walls to. In the present embodiment of my invention the boiler-stand is in the form of a tripod, each section or unit of the tripod comprising a bowed or bent member com posed of a lower leg portion 1, and an upper portion 1 serving as a supporting bracket or arm, the free end of the arm 1 terminating in a horizontal extension 1" for the direct support of the boiler. In the trade there are two prevailing sizes of boiler, the smaller being twelve and the larger fourteen inches in cross-sectional diameter. 'In the present embodiment of my invention I provide each supporting arm with a lug 2 projecting above the supporting surface of the terminal 1" and flush with the free end thereof. This permits the smaller boiler to be supported with the lower edges of the walls w resting directly on the members 1', the peripheral surface of said walls en gaging the inner edges of the lugs whereby lateral displacement of the boiler is pre vented. A large boiler on the other hand will permit the flange a of the bottom to straddle the lugs, thereby causing the upper edges of the latter to engage the bottom 6, lateral displacement of the boiler being likewise prevented (Fig. 3).
The units or sections 1, 1, are enlarged inwardly in the region of the bend or crown of the arch formed by the bowing of the sec tion, the said enlargements being each provided with a vertically elongated slot or opening 0 which is bounded on the sides by converging ribs 3, 3, disposed in opposed relation on the same .side of the section, said and the dovetail connections between the tongues and grooves preventing radial withdrawal or movement of the sections. While the boiler is being set up and the pipe connections are being made, the assembled sections are temporarily locked against Wabbling or shifting by nails n (pieces of Wire or even tooth-picks or matches will answer the purpose) inserted through openings or holes it formed in the tongues A and in the alined notches t of the ribs 3, 3, respectively, a nail n being passed through a hole 71. of one unit and through the notches t, 2,, of the ribs of an adjacent interlocked unit as shown in the drawings, a hole It registering with a notch 25 on each side thereof (Fig. 4:). After the boiler is set up and the pipe connections are made, so that the boiler is perfectly rigid and bears down vertically on the stand, the nails may be withdrawn, the several units remaining interlocked against any possible shifting whatsoever. Should the floor on which the stand rests not be perfectly level, the section or unit which is lowest in the series may be raised (the clovetail connections permitting free vertical play between the sections) and a block or wedge inserted under it so as to bring the supporting surfaces of the platforms 1" in the same horizontal plane. I may of course depart from the details here shown without going outside of the scope of my invention.
Having described my invention what I claim is 1. A supporting stand comprising a cluster of units or sections bowed toward the axis of the stand, formations at the crowns of the bowed portions of the respective sections for interlocking the sections to permit a play between the sections in a direction parallel to the axis of the stand said means preventing an outward or radial displace- .ment of the sections.

3. A supporting-stand section or unit comprising a leg portion and a supporting arm converging toward the axis of the stand, a coupling formation at the meeting point of the leg and arm aforesaid, said coupling being provided with a dovetail open ended groove disposed parallel to the axis of the stand and adjacent the converging point between the leg and arm, and with a dovetail lug at the free end of the formation, the lug of the coupling formation of one section engaging the groove of the coupling formation of an adjacent section, upon the assembling of the sections.
4. A supporting stand comprising a cluster of sections .or units mutually interlocked in the region of the vertical axis of the stand, said sections having free vertical play relatively to one another while interlocked, and means for maintaining the sections against movement outwardly or away from said axis.
5. A supporting stand comprising a series of units or sections successively dovetailed directly to one another against outward movement.
6. A supporting stand comprising a cluster of mutually interlocked units relatively movable or adjustable in a given direction, and means providing for the temporary or permanent application of devices to hold said units against movement.
7. A supporting stand comprising a cluster of units dovetailed directly to one another, the tongues and grooves of the respective dovetail connections being provided with registering openings for receiving nails or equivalent securing devices.
