DASHBOARD-ANCHOR FOR MOTORfVEHICLES.
To all ,w h om z 't may Concern:
Be it knownkthat we, Isinon M.l JACOBS and VVILLIAMVCMMER, citizens ofthe, United States, residing' respectively,I at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson' an'd State of Missouri, `and at the of'St.' Louis, in the State 'of Missouri, have invented 4certain new and useful iImprovementsin Dashboard Anchors forElmer-Vehicles, offwhilrthle following is a specification, reference being had thercin'to' tlieacconipanying drawings.
This invention, while it'may be of general utility, `is Aespecially designed.r in, aid
ot thc ysalvaged constructions contemplated by the application for patent Serial Number 163,652, filed by one of the joint inventors herein named, and has for its object the ready utilization of salvaged motor vehicle parts and provides a construction whereby the scat and connected parts, such, for instance as the floor boards, daslrboard, and cowl may be located at any point upon a standard or other chassis to accommodate a relatively longer or shorter salvaged engine.
This present invention is intended also as a modification of the joint invention of the same applicants for which application Serial Number 198,645 was filed on the 26th day of October, 1917.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like numbers of reference denote like parts wherever they occur.
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing part of the chassis, the hood, the seat, and the steering-post and wheel;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the seat showing its mode of attachment to the chassis; and
F ig. 4 is a perspective view of the floorboards, dash-board, and cowl.
The chassis 1 supports the engine contained within the hood and supports also the dash-board 3 bearing the cowl 4, and likewise supports the seat 5. The steering-Wheel G is supported by the steering-post 7, which passes through the hole 8 in the cowl 4 and connects with the front wheels of the vehicle in the usual manner. y
The seat-frame rests upon the flanges 9 of the channel members forming the chassis Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1918.
Applicatioii med November 19, 1917. serial No. 202,726.
1, and extensions 1() of the side members 11 ot'thes'eat-'sp orting-frame extend along the vveb of said channel members. The said seat-frame'may be'located at any desired position iny the :length ofthe chassis.
Tnl order to giye'rigidity to thc side mem-n bers 11 of thefseat-frame and to cause the extensions lQ'fthfereo'f to bear against the webs' ofl the channel members forming the chassis 1, so as to cause the seat lo remain stationary at'any determined spot upon the chassls'lytie-rods 12 having at one ond a bolt head and aAnult` 1 3 :ltlhc other pass jfrqmwth'e outside Vofy one of thesidc members `1Ilto the outside of the other side member 11, and the nuts 13 tightened on the said ticrods 12 draw the side members 1,1 and their extensions 10 together and into tight engagement with the chassis 1. i
In the constructions contemplated by the above mentioned inventions, the salvaged or other engines used will be of greater or less length, and for this reason it is necessary that the dash-board shall be located farther forward or back as the case may luc. This necessitates relative location of the seat 5 farther back or otherwise as made necessary by the location of the dash-lmartlf The same remarks, mut/.IHS fmimrnrf'is, apA ply to the floor-boards 14V and lf, the former of which is supported by the chassis 1 and the latter by uprights 16 attached to the chassis 1.
The gasolene tank 17 may be supported i' rom the seat by straps 18 o1" other suitable means.
The steering-post 8 in the cowl can be rcversed from the position shown in the drawings for a left-hand drive machine to the position shown in dotted lines at 19. F or this purpose it is only necessary to turn the cowl t around end for end. The boards 14 and 15 will preferably be supplied by the dealer in the form of blanks, so as to allow the assembler to cut the same to Fit the motor.
Dash-board 3 is supported from the chassis 1 by the uprights 20, preferably in the shape of angle bars of which uprights 1G form a part, to which it is fastened by bolts 21 or other suitable means, and the dash-board 3 may be located at any suitable place on -rne wams il to Acco/nomi he With the object of keeping the dash-board 3 Mo (mmm kammen o1: me Sami @rv the hams imm bucking when; www: mt* n rookY or rough place on the road, an L- shaped bar 2G is bolted bv bolt 27 to board and eyed in relation te ihr SAME 97 eet-screw E28 which bears against the undelL nenni smi of me Hooge Cl eemssis n.
