i Be it known that we,l RooiiwnnrJ L. GAL- LUP and VALTER G. lfVAous, citizens of the United States, both residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, havejointly invented certain new 4and useful Improvements in Bottle-lVashing Machines, of. .which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle washing` machines and'more ,particularly to mechanism for receiving and conveying bottles therefrom, thisfapplication being a division of our-application Serial No. 862176 filed September 19, 1914, for improvements in bottle washing machines.
The object of our invention is the provision yof means for automatically removing' the bottles after the washing operation is Vcompleted and conveying' them to some desirable point as for example to a bottling vmachine which may be arranged to receive the. bottles as` fast as they are washed and to till them at once.
More specifically our object is to prevent overturning;v of the bottles as they are delivered to a moving belt conveyer.
Further objects and advantages of our invention will be apparent as it is better understood by reference to the following specification when read in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of a portion lof thema'chine illustrating our mechanism is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;` f

I- I f Referring to the drawingl (Fig. 3) indicates aportion of the frame of the machine inwhich a shaft 6 is mounted. Sprockets 7 on the shaft 6 support a conveyor 8 which carries the bottles through the machine. The coiiv'eyer is provided' at intervals with --cup shaped members 9'to engage the bottles,
and is intermittently actuated in any suiti able manner.

'A rock shaft 22iS mounted in the brackets lOand is providedwith a` plurality of arms 23 secured thereto and each carrying a blade 2-il adapted to enter the slots in the plate 14. A lever 25 is secured to one end of` the rock shaft 22 and is connected by a rod 26 to an intermittently actuated member (not shown) preferably the member which aetuates the sprockets 7 to advance the convcyer 8. At its opposite end the rock shaft 22 is provided with a lever 2T connected to thel frame l by a tension spring 28 whichwnormally draws the lever 2t toward the framel 1 and hold the blades 24 in the position indicated in Figs. 3 and 1.

The blades 24; are provided .at their lower edges witha portion 29 (Fig. 1) bent in a direction opposite tothe direction` of movement of the belt 16.y This portion engages the bottles near their bottoms as the belt moves them againstthe bladesand prevents over-turning of the bottles. Toinsure movement of the bottles into :the proper compartments weprovide guides 30 (Fig. 3) .on a transversely extending rock shaft 31.

In a bottle washing machine, the combination of a conveyer for carrying bottles through the machine, a carrier disposed adjacent the discharge end of the conveyer and extending transversely thereof for automatically removing the bottles from the machine, guides to direct the bottles to said carrier, a plurality of pivoted blades in front of and beneath said guides, and means for positioning said blades above said carrier prior to delivery of the bottles thereto, and withdrawing said blades after delivery of the bottles to permit the latter to advance with said carrier. i

In a bottle washing machine the combination of a conveyer for carrying bottles through the machine, a carrier disposed adjacent the discharge end of the conveyer and extending transversely thereof for automatically removing bottles from the machine, guides to direct the bottles to said carrier a plurality of pivoted blades and means for positioning said blades above said carrier prior to delivery of bottles thereto, the bottoms of said blades being offset in a direction opposite the direction of movement ol said carrier whereby said blades engage the bottles adjacent their bottoms and overturning of the bottles is prevented.

In a bottle washing machine the combination of a trough, a constantly moving carrier on said trough, a plurality of blades movable through slots in the side of said trough to form a plurality of pockets above said carrier, and means for delivering a plurality of bottles simultaneously to said pockets.
