Be it known that I, Fnsi) J. HEIUEMAN, n citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne und Stute of Michigan, hnve invented n certain new und useful li'nprovcment in Compressors for lt'cfrigeruting Apparatus, of which the fol lowing is a full, clenr` and exnct description, reference being hud to the l.luccompnnyino; drawings.
This invention relates` to refrigernting ninchinery und especially to the construction ci n compressor employed in such machinery.
Among the objects of the invention are the provision of a cheap, simple and efficient vulve construction for small sized compressors; the provision of a. valve and vulve body of such construction as to shield from the corrosive action of the refrigerant the base metal of which the compressor is chiefly y, constructed; the provision of a device which will be rigidly held in place when assembled, instantly 'taken apart 'when the compressor is disassembled, and in which grinding and adjustment to the valves is' gretl facilitnted; while further `advantages o the invention will become apparent as the dcscription proceeds. In the drawings accompanying und forming' n part of tins application I have shown one embodiment of my said invention, although it will be understood that these `drawings are illustrative merely und are not to be given any limiting effect. In these drawings Figure l is a sectional view through n purt of n twofcylinder compressor constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is u transverse sectional' view on the line 2--S' of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is n, separated perspective view of the diil'erent valve and closure parts.
Describing the parts by reference clntrnctorse-1 represents the cylinder block of the compressor which ispieferably of enst iron und is here shown ns provided with two purnllel cylindrical bores 2--2, although the number may be increased or diminished. Euch of these bores is lined with a cylin` dricnl sleeve 3 of non-corrodihle metul such as bronze, the upper end of euch sleeve being Y)reiernloly provided with an external annular flange 4 snugly received in a rabbet formed in the cylindrical block. The upperi face of euch Bunge may also be formed with` an annular groove 5, for obstructing leakage,
although these minor features are not necessary to the use of my invention. Superposed on top of the cylinder blck 1T ls a head member 6, also preferably formed of cast iron, and formed in alinement with each cylinder with un aperture 7 of smaller diameter than the sleeve 3. Located in each aperture is the cylindrical portion 8 of a, valve body whose lower end is formed with n laterally projecting circuler flange 9 seated flush in a, recess in. the heud member concentric with the aperture 7. This flange is of suilicient width to'overlup thesleeve 3 of the cylinder to which it is applied and the entire vulve hotly is constructed of some metal which is et 'xr 't resistent to the cori rosive effect of the refrigerant fluid and of sulcient hardness to withstand the hammering of the valves.
