Upon the insertion of the tongue and the depression of the spring, the tongue is bent at the base so that upon the release of the spring the free end ofthe tongue will extend downwardly through the slot 1.1, and the tlat portion 16 of the tongue will engage the web 12 to limit the movement ot the spring mem ber. 4If it is desired, the hooi: may be formed after the end ot the tongue is inserted in the slot 10.
In the modification shown in Fig. -Lt the spring 20 has provided therein a slot Q0 into which extends the tongue 18 provided with ears 19-19 extending at right angles to the tongue and adapted to engage the spring 20 on the tiattened portion In this modification after the punching and folding process the assembling consists in forcing the portions on either side ot the slot 2()a apart sutliciently to admit the ears 1.919 carried by the tongue 1S. The portions are then forced toward each other sutiiciently to permit the ears to overlap and engage the t'lat portion 22. 1t is clear that the force exerted by the spring 2O will be taken up by the projecting ears '19 of the tongue 18, and a conductor held by the clip Will be engaged by the ears 19 of the tongue 18 and spring 20.
The device of Fig. 5 is shown attached to the carbon of a dry cell and comprises body portion 23 and the spring 25. From the body portion 23 is stamped a slot 28 so as to provide ears 29-29 extending toward each other. It will be seen that the arm 31 is inserted through the slot 28 and the spring holds the arm 31 in engagement with the ears 29-29 thereby limiting the movement of the spring. Upon depression ot the arm 31 an opening is provided for the reception of a conductor. Upon releasing the arm the conductor is tirmly held by the tension of the spring in engagement with the ears 29-29- As illustrated in Fig. 7 this modification consists in a base 33 formed intofa V at 34. Slots 35 are provided in the V and separated by a tlat web 37 of the member 34. The arm 39 is inserted through the slots 35 and the tension of the spring holdsithe upper surface of the arm in engagement with the lower surface of the web 37. An opening is provided for the eonductor upon depression of the arnyi 3f). When the arm is released the coductnr is secured between two llat surfaces and cannot be cut or bent.
In Fig. 8 I have illustrated a clip in section. It consists in a base 40, a spring 4-1, and a tongue t3. As lshown the tongue t3 is dished at l5 so that its edges engage the conductor in a manner which inerases the grip upon the conductor. rlhe assembling operation in this moditication is the `same as in the assembling of the device ot Fig. L).
Thus it will be seen that in each ot my devices the conductor is secured between the` body portion and the .spring member and the parts are so arranged that the edges` ci" parts cannot pass each other to cli'ect a cut ting operation. p
Having thus described my invention, what l claim is:
1. A spring terminal for electrical conductors consisting in a body portion, a spring portion, slots provided in said spring portion and separated by a web, a tongue adapted to extend through the slots and cooperate with said web, said tongue being adapted to hold a conductor between it. and the web.

8. A fastening device for electrical conductors comprising two conductor clamping parts, one extending through the other, spring means tending to withdraw the parts away from each other to clamp between them an electrical conductor, means provided on one of the clamping parts overlapping the parts,v whereby a small conductor may be clamped between said parts without danger of shearing it.
9. A binding post comprising a resilient strip fiexed upon itself to provide a body member and a clamping member, one of said members being provided with an aperture and the other of said members having a portion extending through said aperture and in overlapping relation with a portion of said irsbnamed member, and means on one of said members for guiding wires of various diameters to a position between said overlapping portions.
10. The combination with a clamping member having an aperture therethrough, of a second clamping member extending through said aperture and in overlapping relation with saidI first named clamping member, resilient means for urging said .clamping members toward each other, and
means carried by one of said members for guiding wires ot' various sizes toa position between said clamping members.
