BASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Julyifi, ieis.
Application filed June 8., 1917. Serial No. 173,663.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. WILLIAM A. Snonn, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bases or supports, particularly for use with pumps, motors, engines and the like. and the principal object is to provide a device of this character which will securely support the machine, whereby various necessary adjustments for purposes of alinement and proper positioning of the machines, may be readily accomplished.
Another object of this invention is the provision of such a construction whereby a motor and a pump, may be mounted, and the machines readily adjusted and alined, and securely held in their proper position relative to each other.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects asmay hereinafter appear, my invention consists in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and then sought to be defined in the appended claims. reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, and which shows merely for the purpose of illustrative disclosure, a preferred embodiment of my invention. it being understood that various changes may be made in practice within the scope of the claims without digressing from my inventive idea.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pump and motor mounted on a base structure. embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a base structure, an adjusting position of one of the elements being shown in dotted lines;
' Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a base structure, and
Fig. I is a side elevation of one of the base elements.
Referring now to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the pump which may be of any standard form, having the base members 2. 3 designates the motor which is shown for purposes of disclosure as an electric motor. although it is well understood that an internal combustion engine or one ily alined.
driven by other power may be utilized, just as well. I
It is necessary to mount these elements in exact alinement with each other to insure effective operation and transmission of base members 2 of the pump or other ma-.
chine mounted thereon. The base elements 4 are also provided with the side flange members 8 depending from the flat supporting portion 6 and these flange members 8 are provided with the apertures 9 through which pass the connecting elements 10. These connecting elements may be in the .form of pipe, as shown, or rods or any other form' found suitable for the purpose, and extend between the base elements, as shown. These base elements are tapped as at 11 to receive the securing bolts-12, whereby the position of the base elements relative to each other, may be adjusted.
It is to be understood. that the base elements 4 used for supporting the motor, are longer than the base elements 4 for supporting the pump, and that the apertures 9 passing through the depending flange portions 8, are located at'a slightly difierent position. This arrangement permits the motor to be thrown on one side or the other relative to the pump, this of course, depending upon the form of the drive.
It is seen, therefore, that I have provided a base construction which may be readily adjusted as to length, so as to accommodate machines of different sizes and in which lateral adjustment is readily provided for, so that the machines may be quickly and read- The fastening means is secure so that the motor and driven elements are properly supported.
What I claim is 1. An article of manufacture, a base element having an elongated flat supporting portion provided with an elongated slot, and having flange portions depending therefrom provided with aperturcs adapted to receive a connecting element and having apertured securing ears, whereby it may be secured to a suitable foundation.
A construction of the character described including in combination, a plurality of base elements adapted to support a plurality of machines for cooperative relation, means on each base element to permit adjustment of said supported machines in one direction, and connectin devices for adjust-ably connecting said base elements and adapted to provide adjustment of said devices and said machines relative to each other in another direction.
3. A construction of the character described including in combination, a plurality of base elements, each having a flat supporting portion provided with an elongated slot adapted to receive the fastening means of a machine to be supported thereon, and also having a depending flange portion provided with apertures therethrough, said base elements also having securing ears adapted to be secured to a suitable foundation, and connecting elements passing through the apertures in said flange portions for connecting the base elements together.
4. A construction of the character described, including in combination, a plurality of base elements each having a flat supporting portion provided With an elongated slot adapted to receive a machine to be supported and permit its adjustment in one direction, means for mounting said base elements on a suitable foundation, and connecting elements adjustably connecting said base elements to provide for adjustment of said elements relative to each other.
5. A construction of the character described, including in combination, a plurality or base elements each having a fiat supporting portion provided With an elongated slot adapted to receive a machine to be supported, means for mounting said base elements on a suitable foundation, and connecting elements adjustably connecting said base elements, said connecting elements extending at right angles to said elongated slots so as to provide adjustment in one direction, the elongated slots permitting adjustment in a direction at right angles thereto.
6. A construction of the character described, including in combination, a plurality of base elements, each having a flat supporting portion provided With an elongated slot, adapted to adjustably receive the securing means of a machine, each base element also having a depending flange portion provided with apertures, connecting elements for connecting said base elements adjustably mounted in said apertures, whereby a plurality of machines adapted for cooperation may be mounted and adjusted relative to each other. 7
